Jendrian Becomes All-Time Doubles Leader

February 28, 2009 | Tennis

DENVER ? Senior Franziska Jendrian was the lone bright spot for the University of Colorado tennis team on Saturday becoming the school's all-time doubles leader in the Buffaloes, 7-0 loss at No. 34 Denver at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.

Jendrian teamed with Ania Anuszkiewicz at the No.2 slot with a 9-7 win to claim her 70th career doubles victory surpassing Jessica Garrow (1997-2000) for the most doubles victories in school history.

Jendrian from Rodleben, Germany, has won 45 of her 70 victories during spring play. Saturday was her fourth triumph in seven outings with her freshman teammate from Mississauga, Ontario.

In singles, CU (4-5) was able to push three of the six positions to three sets, however the host Pioneers (7-3) secured the doubles point, then took a trio of singles matches in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6.

“Hats off to Denver, they played a great match,” said CU head coach Nicole Kenneally. “It's always fun to play them; they bring out the best in us and we bring the best out in them.

“We're looking forward to start conference play in two weeks with OU and OSU coming to Boulder, and its matches like today that get us ready for conference play.”

CU is idle until March 13 when open Big 12 Conference play hosting Oklahoma at 2 p.m., then Oklahoma State on March 15 at 11 a.m. Both matches are scheduled at the Millennium Harvest House Bubble, however depending on the weather, may be moved outside to the South Campus Courts.
