Kyle and Hedelund Jensen Earn CU Athlete of the Week Honors

BOULDER-- University of Colorado athletes Jordan Kyle (senior) and Michala Hedelund Jensen (freshman) were named the Athletes of the Week for the week of April 13-19. This marks Kyle's fifth career honor all of which he has earned this season. As for Hedelund Jensen, this is her first career honor.
Kyle, a Fishers, Ind. (Hamilton Southeast/Indiana) native, ran his way into the NCAA Midwest Regional's by placing ninth overall with a personal record of 13 minutes, 59.75 seconds. He finished just under five seconds after Butler's Joe Macdonald crossed the finish in 13:54.73. Kyle's previous PR was 14:03.38, which he set in 2007 while at Indiana University.
Hedelund Jensen, a Frederiksberg, Denmark (Naerum Gymnasium) native, defeated Iowa State's Reka Kelemen, 6-1, 6-3, then two days later defeated Stephanie Evans, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(4). In doubles, Hedelund Jensen teamed with Abbie Probert at the No. 3 slot helping CU clinch the point with decisive wins on both days. On Friday against the Cyclones, the CU tandem defeated Liza Wicher/Tessa Lang, 8-2, then on Sunday, rallied from a 4-1 deficit rattling off seven straight points for the 8-4 win over Nebraska's Wiveca Swarting/Maria Ring. The CU duo broke NU's serve three times in the rally securing their sixth conference victory in the process. It was also their fifth clinching match point this season and second in three days. The Frederiksberg, Denmark native won for the 15th time (10th in the spring) and improved her three set record to 3-1 this year.
The only other nominee for this week's award was: Emma Coburn (women's track).

Coburn ran in the invitational section of the steeplechase and placed 14th overall, improving on her personal record by 33.8 seconds. Lindsay Anderson, who runs for Nike and represented the U.S. at the Olympics, finished first in 9:46.56. Eight professionals or unattached athletes finished above Coburn; she was the fifth collegiate athlete to cross the finish. With her time Coburn is the fifth fastest performer in the event in CU history.
