Barringer Runs Regional Time in the 800

April 25, 2009 | Track and Field

EUGENE, Ore. ? University of Colorado senior Jenny Barringer recorded the second fastest time in CU history in the 800-meter run at the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field on Saturday afternoon.

Barringer finished the race in 2 minutes, 5.43 seconds and was a full second ahead of the runner-up, Oregon's Zoe Buckman, who finished in 2:06.66. Her time is the ninth fastest recorded this collegiate season.

The CU record in the 800 that she was chasing is 2:03.7, which was set by Lee Ballenger in 1978, also in Eugene. Ballenger had held the top five marks prior to Barringer's performance.

Barringer set the school record in the 1,500-meter run on Friday night with a time of 4:08.38, over 2.5 seconds faster than the former mark of 4:10.81 which was held by Shayne Wille. She is also the CU record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:22.26), the indoor mile (4:25.91), the indoor 3k (8:42.03) and the indoor 5k (15:01.71).
