
'Horns Too Much For Buffs, 6-1

AUSTIN, Texas ? The University of Colorado tennis team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end Friday afternoon, falling to the No. 32 Texas Longhorns, 6-1 at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.
The No. 53 nationally ranked Buffaloes suffered their first loss since Feb. 28 and first loss in Big 12 Conference play, dropping to 9-6 overall and 5-1 in the Big 12. The Longhorns won their third straight improving to 11-5 and remained unbeaten in conference play at 7-0.
Texas started strong winning the doubles point for a 1-0 lead, then tacked on straight-set victories at the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
CU received a pair of bright spots on the day as Camila Belassi remained unbeaten at the No. 2 slot improving to 3-0 defeating Caroline Larsson in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 for her fifth straight win. It was Belassi's 53rd career singles tally and 19th of the year. The 19 singles victories, is a season-high for the junior from Paysand?, Uruguay.
At the No. 1 singles position, junior Melisa Esposito took the nation's No. 118 ranked player to the limit falling in three sets to Vanja Corovic, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. It was Esposito's first loss against Big 12 competition this spring in six matches and only her third career loss in 16 three-set matches. In the third set against Corovic, Esposito rallied from a 3-1 and 4-2 deficit to tie the final set at 5-5.
CU travels to College Station, Texas to take on the No. 33 ranked Texas A&M Aggies, Sunday, April 5 at Noon (MST).
