Iowa State wins its seventh straight against Colorado and 12th in the last 13 meetings. CU still holds an overall series lead of 36-28.
Colorado drops its 14th straight game against a ranked opponent dating back to a 73-68 win over No. 15/15 ranked Kansas State on Feb. 23, 2008. The Cyclones entered the contest ranked No. 20 in the USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches poll.
Junior Brittany Spears moved into 12th place on CU's all-time list for steals and rebounds, passing the same former Buff on each list. Spears had four steals, increasing her career total to 150, moving past Jamillah Lang who had 148 from 1990-94. She also had 11 rebounds to move her career total to 626. Lang had 619 in her career.
Spears recorded her 20th career double-double, fifth of the season and first in Big 12 play as she had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Her 20 double-doubles put her alone in fifth on CU's all-time list.
Spears was 10-of-12 from the line, career highs and individual team season highs in both makes and attempts from the line. Overall Colorado was 24-of-33 from the line, both team season highs.
Senior Bianca Smith scored 13 points to move into 23rd on CU's all-time list. She now has 977 points, needing just 13 more to become the 23rd player in school history to reach 1,000.
Smith had two 3-pointers, moving her to 223 in her career. She needs one more for second on the CU career charts. Mandy Nightingale had 224 from 1998-02.
Junior Kelly Jo Mullaney hit a 3-pointer on her only attempt giving her nine for the season and matching her 28-game season total in 2008-09.
Colorado's 26 rebounds was its second lowest total this season (24 vs. Minnesota). Iowa State outrebounded the Buffaloes by 17, the widest margin allowed by CU this season.
