Kansas-Colorado Notes

February 17, 2010 | Women's Basketball

Colorado has now lost seven straight and nine of its last 10. The seven-game skid is the longest for the Buffaloes since dropping 11 consecutive games in 2004-05.

Colorado has lost five straight at the Coors Events/Conference Center for the first time since 2004-05.

Kansas snaps a four-game losing streak in Boulder and narrows the CU lead in the all-time series to 33-32.

Colorado's 72 points are its most in the Big 12 this season and the most in conference play since scoring 75 in a home win over Nebraska on Jan. 31, 2009.

Colorado out rebounded Kansas 35-33.  This was the first time in the last nine games that the Buffs have outrebounded their opponents (they tied against Texas Tech and Kansas State).

Colorado changed up its lineup for the first time in 15 games as senior guard Bianca Smith started her second start of the season in place of freshman Meagan Malcolm-Peck. For Smith it was her 58th career start, which includes all 29 games as a junior. Malcolm-Peck came off the bench for the first time in her brief CU career.

Smith made 2-of-7 from 3-point range as she continues to move up CU and Big 12 ladders. Second place on CU's all-time list, she now has 241 3-pointers leaving her just 11 shy of Shelley Sheetz's (1991-95) all-time mark of 252. Smith is eighth on CU's single-season list with 66, just 14 short of her own school record 80 set in 2007-08. Smith moved into a tie for 10th place (Megan Ronhovde, Iowa State, 2004-07) on the Big 12 Conference's all-time list for 3-pointers made.

Junior Brittany Spears had 17 points as she passed Jenny Roulier (1,399 from 1998-02) for 10th place on CU's all-time scoring list. Spears now has 1,415 points in 87 career games.

Spears also moved into 11th in career steals (167) and 17th in career free-throws made (245)

Spears recorded her 21st career double-double, sixth of the season and second in Big 12 play.

Senior center Courtney Dunn matched a career high with three steals.

Sophomore Alyssa Fressle tied a season high with 12 points, reaching double-digits for the third consecutive game. It's the first time this season she's scored double-digits in three straight and second in her career.

Freshman guard Chucky Jeffery tied her career high in points with 19.   She previously recorded 19 earlier this season against Yale and Seton Hall.

Colorado forced 12 first-half Jayhawks turnovers, the second highest first-half total of the season.  Earlier this season the Buffs forced 13 first-half turnovers against Georgia Southern.

Kansas forward Carolyn Davis shot a perfect 10-for-10 from the field tonight, a CU opponent record and just one off the Big 12 Conference mark.  The previous record for a CU opponent was 6-of-6 held by Ashleigh Fontenette of Texas earlier this season and Dana Wilkerson of Long Beach State on Mar. 19, 1988. Davis is one of four players in Big 12 history to go 10-of-10 in a game, a list that includes former Colorado standout Tera Bjorklund who was 10-of-10 at Texas on Jan. 31, 2001. Steffanie Blackmon of Baylor (11/26/02) and Kacy Moffitt of Baylor (2/1/98) share the Big 12 record at 11-of-11 for a single game.
