Dodson Makes 2010 Outdoor Debut At ASU Invite
March 28, 2010 | Track and Field
TEMPE, Ariz. ? University of Colorado senior Jeremy Dodson returned to the track for his final outdoor season at the Arizona State Invitational on Saturday in the 200 and 400-meter dashes.
Dodson started the meet in the 200 and recorded a time of 21.13. The mark is tied for 10th overall in the country and is fourth in the west region. He finished behind two conference rivals, Texas A&M's Curtis Mitchell (20.54) and Gerald Phiri (20.91). Dodson broke up the Aggies sweep of the top three since he finished .05 seconds ahead of A&M's Tran Howell (21.18).
In the 400, he finished with a time of 49.41, good for 11th place. Dodson wasn't 100 percent satisfied with his performances at the meet. He is the CU record holder in the outdoor 200 (20.37) and had hoped for more in his first meet back in the black and gold.
“This was my first year of not competing indoors, so I expected to break records after a strong training session,” Dodson said. “But stepping back, it was a real good opener to wake everything up. It's going to be a long year, so I have to make sure I'm ready to make it to the end and beyond. It feels great to be back on the scene; it's been a long time coming.”
Sprint coach Drew Morano also competed in the 400. He recorded a fourth-place finish with a mark of 47.53.
The Buffs have two meets on tap for next weekend. The multi events will compete at the Jim Click Shootout April 1-2 in Tucson, Ariz. and the rest of the squad will compete at the Tom Benich Invite April 3 in Greeley, Colo.
