Kansas State-Colorado Notes
March 03, 2010 | Women's Basketball
With the win, Kansas State salvages the series split with the Buffaloes and also draws the all-time series to an even 33 games apiece.
It is only the second time in the last eight years the Kansas State-Colorado regular season series has ended in a split (2008) and the first time since 1999 that both teams have won on the opponent's home court in the same season.
The loss puts Colorado at 3-12 in the Big 12 standings and guarantees an 11th place finish and the No. 11 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Championship.
Colorado led at halftime 32-31, its first halftime lead since the game against the Wildcats in Manhattan on Jan. 20. The Buffaloes dropped just their third game in 13 tries when leading at half.
Colorado's four 3-point field goals made tied for its second-lowest of the season (UC-Irvine).
Sophomore Alyssa Fressle scored a season-high 17 points, just two off her career of 19 set against Drexel last season. She actually passed her previous season high of 12 in the first half alone as she had 13 in the first 20 minutes. She had a season-high seven field goals, one off her career-best of eight set against Drexel.
Fressle has scored in double digits in six of the last seven games.
Senior Bianca Smith was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line extending her current streak of free throws made to 23, a string she started at Oklahoma on Feb. 13. Smith had a string of 25-straight free throws made from Nov. 22 (Minnesota) to Jan. 16 (Iowa State).
Smith was 1-of-7 from 3-point range, setting new marks for 3-pointers made (81) and attempted (224) in one season. She entered the game exactly at her own previous school season records of 80 made and 217 attempted set in 2007-08.
