Salzmann and Beemer Are Named CU Athletes of the Week

BOULDER- Track standouts Adam Salzmann (junior) and Brianne Beemer (sophomore) have earned CU Athlete of the Week honors for the week of March 29- April 4. This is the first career honor for the pair.

Salzmann, a native of Wheat Ridge, Colo. (Wheat Ridge), scored 6,739 points to place fourth overall in the men's decathlon at the Jim Click Shootout on Friday to lead the Buffalo men. The mark ties for 23rd in the country and is 18th in the west region. Highlighting his performance was a second-place finish in the 1500. Salzmann's time of 4:25.92 is a personal record and marks the third best combined events 1500 time recorded at CU. Salzmann also set PRs in the pole vault (14-09) and javelin (154-10) where he finished fourth and eighth, respectively. Salzmann's mark in the pole vault tied for the third best by a CU combined events athlete.

Beemer, a Loveland, Colo. (Mountain View) native, raced her way to the top of the CU combined events record book, posting a school record in the 800-meter run of the heptathlon on Friday afternoon at the Jim Click Shootout. Beemer recorded a time of 2 minutes, 13.20 seconds to beat the runner-up, Arizona State's Keia Pinnick, by 3.81 seconds. She now holds four of the seven highest times posted by a CU female in the combined events 800. The previous record was held by Heather Sterlin who ran 2:14.80 on June 4, 1997. Beemer scored 4,669 points to finish seventh overall in the heptathlon and ranks 27th in the nation (20th in the west region). In addition to her first-place finish in the 800, she tied for sixth in the high jump (5-01.75) and was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (15.63).

Women's Tennis: Monica Milewski, Senior, Park Ridge, Ill.
Monica Milewski won her 20th singles match of the year with a come-from-behind victory at No. 1 singles helping the Colorado tennis team break a five-match losing streak to defeat Missouri, 5-2 in their lone match of the week. Milewski remained unbeaten in Big 12 play (3-0) earning her 85th career singles win moving into a fourth place tie on the all-time school list. Milewski defeated Kaitlyn Ritchie, 1-6, 6-0, 6-1 for her eighth win in her last nine singles matches. In doubles, Milewski teamed with Ania Anuszkiewicz at No. 1 defeating Weber/Ritchie, 8-4. It was their 13th victory of the year and it helped Milewski tie the school record with 76 career doubles wins. The doubles and singles victories were her 160th and 161st career victories, moving Milewski into a first place tie atop the CU list with May 2009 graduate Franziska Jendrian.
