Talley Earns Big 12 Golfer Of The Month
April 08, 2010 | Women's Golf
BOULDER- Sophomore Emily Talley was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for March, the league office announced Wednesday. Talley, a sophomore from Napa, Calif., carded three top 11 performances in March, including two career-best performances.
"This is a well deserved honor," CU coach Anne Kelly said. "She has played some really good golf recently and it's terrific that the Big 12 has recognized her accomplishments."
Talley's month began at the San Jose State Spartan Invitational, when she carded a 1-under par 71 in the final round to move from 33rd to finish in a tie for 11th. Her final round was tied for the best in the final round and one of just six subpar rounds for the field in the entire tournament. She was one stroke behind a four-way tie for seventh place.
Talley then matched her career best finish, carding a 6-over par 222 at the BYU at Entrada Classic. Her finish matched her finish as a freshman at last year's Big 12 Championship. Talley was 4-over par through the first five holes of the first round and shot the remaining 52 holes at 2-over par. In the third round, she was 4-over par through the first 11 holes and after a big break, she carded birdies on three of the next four holes.
Just a few days after the conclusion of the BYU at Entrada Classic, the Buffs headed to Tucson, Ariz., where they hosted the MountainView Collegiate Invitational. Talley bested her performance from earlier in the week, tying for third individually, one stroke behind the co-leaders. Her third place finish is just the 24th top three finish in CU history.
Talley becomes the fourth Buffalo to earn Big 12 Golfer of the Month honors. With two top 10 performances, Talley now has seven in her young career and is already tied for fourth most in school history.
Talley and the Buffaloes are en route to Bloomington, Ind., where they will participate in the 2010 Indiana Invitational Friday and Saturday in the final regular season event prior to the Big 12 Championships, set for April 23-25 in Norman, Okla.
