King To Enter Colorado Springs Sports Hall Of Fame

BOULDER - Former University of Colorado women's basketball standout and academic coordinator Sherrice King will be inducted into the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 27, 2010, at the Colorado Springs World Arena.

The 11th edition of the Colorado Springs Sports Hall of Fame will honor King along with Andy Gambucci (Colorado College Hockey), Ken Brown (Wasson High School/Cornell University Rowing), Ken Hatfield (Air Force Football), Fred Whitacre (Contributions to Colorado Springs Sports), David G. Elmore (Colorado Sky Sox), the 1981 Mitchell High School State Football Champions and the 1980 U.S. Olympic Women's Volleyball Team.

A four-year letter winner, King averaged 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds over 116 career games from 1989-93. She played on two NCAA Tournament teams (1992 & 1993), one Big Eight Conference regular season championship team (1993) and one Big Eight Tournament titlist (1992).

King was a four-time Academic All-Big Eight selection and graduated from CU in May 1993 with a double-degree in psychology and sociology.  Her senior year 3.5 GPA was the highest of all senior student-athletes at CU. She was named the state of Colorado's winner of the 1993 NCAA Woman of the Year Award and was a semifinalist for the national award.

King was a prep basketball star at Rampart High in Colorado Springs, winning all-state honors in 1986 and 1987 and Parade All-America laurels as a senior. She was an all-state volleyball selection and set school records in the high jump for the track team along with her hoops accomplishments.

After graduating from CU, King remained with the athletic department from 1994-2001 as a tutor and academic coordinator for student-athletes. She moved on to Texas A&M University in 2001 as an academic supervisor in the athletic department and was the assistant athletic director for academics from 2003-08. King is currently the associate director for general academic programs at Texas A&M and is pursuing a graduate degree.
