Buffs Start Competition at USATF Championships

June 24, 2010 | Track and Field

DES MOINES, Iowa - Jeremy Dodson, a recent University of Colorado graduate, placed 20th overall in the quarterfinals of the 100-meter dash at the USA Track & Field Championships on Thursday.

Dodson got out to a great start in the race and was second after the first 40 meters behind Walter Dix (NIKE). Unfortunately his competition caught him just after that and he fell back to sixth in the heat, finishing with a time of 10.60 seconds. Walter Dix won the heat in 10.27. Travis Padgett (adidas) won the quarterfinals in 10.23. Dodson will be back in action on Friday in the 200 quarterfinals.

CU assistant coach Drew Morano raced in the 400. He finished fifth in his heat with a time of 47.26 and was 24th overall. Jamaal Torrence (NIKE) had the best time overall at 45.49.

Freshman Emily Hunsucker was the lone Buff competing in the USATF Junior Championships. She participated in the hammer throw and placed 15th overall after recording her best throw of the day at 148 feet, 11 inches in her second attempt.

The championship continues through Sunday, June 27 with several former Buffaloes competing. Drake University is hosting the event at Drake Stadium, home of the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championship. A live webstream is available online and ESPN will also broadcast portions of the meet. For more information go to www.USATF.org.
