Quickly CU evened the series with Hawai'i at 1-1; it had been 31,305 days since they first played, but the two open the 2011 season against each other in Honolulu next Sept. 3 (just 350 days this time) ... The 55 degree temperature at kickoff was the coldest for a CU opener at Folsom Field since 1982 (Sept. 11), when it was 49 degrees in a 31-17 loss to California (rainfall, 15 mph winds); that game was Bill McCartney's first as Buff head coach ... Redshirt frosh CB Paul Vigo made his first career start, doing so today as the nickel back ... The teams combined for just 31 offensive plays in the first quarter ... CU last failed to score in the first half at home on Nov. 8, 2008 against Iowa State; the Buffs trailed that at intermission 10-0 as well, but rallied for a 28-24 win ... The third quarter safety by Anthony Perkins was CU's first safety since Oct. 22, 2005 versus Kansas in Boulder ... A tale of two halves: Hawai'i outgained CU 237-124 in outscoring CU 10-0; in the second half, CU won both by 328-100 and 31-3 ... CU's 252 yards rushing marked its first time over 200 since 2008 versus Kansas State (247) and its most since running for 257 against Nebraska in 2007 (both games in Boulder) ... The Buffs honored Alfred Williams at halftime, as he will become CU's fifth inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame this December (over 300 youngsters wearing replica #94 jerseys, Williams' number at CU, lined a tunnel for him to the center of the field) ... This was the seventh comeback from 10-plus points down by the Buffs under Dan Hawkins ... Two of CU's three games thus far have taken under three hours to play (today's was 2:57; CSU game was 2:49).
DEFENSE SHINES Hawai'i finished the game with 13 rushes for a net 7 yards (11-for-19 if excluding sacks). That is tied for the second fewest rushing plays against CU in its history (lowest: 12 by Texas Tech in 2007); the net 7 yards is the 10th lowest ever allowed by a CU team, the second fewest in the Dan Hawkins Era as Kansas had a net minus-8 last year.
TB RODNEY STEWART (22-106, 2 TD) The CU junior had his ninth career 100-yard game (first this year), and is now tied for the 11th most in school history with three other players, one of whom is his position coach, Darian Hagan. He now has 1,679 career yards, propelling him from 25th into 22nd all-time as today he passed Terry Kunz (1,575), William Harris (1,585) and Eddie Dove (1,612).
TB BRIAN LOCKRIDGE (14-109, 0 TD) The CU junior had his first career 100-yard game, as his previous best day was nearly three years ago to the day when he had 14 attempts for 90 yards against Miami-Ohio as a true freshman on Sept. 22, 2007. He had 35 of his yards after contact (six rushes).

QB TYLER HANSEN (26-19-0, 200, 2 TD) Hansen cracked CU's top 15 in passing yards, finishing the game with 2,278 for his career; he passed four players today (Jeff Knapple, Bill Solomon, Ken Johnson and Bobby Anderson). Hansen was near perfect today on third downs: he was 9-of-10 for 147 yards (2 TD/8 first downs).
WR SCOTTY McKNIGHT (6-65, 1 TD) He became the seventh player in CU history to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark in receiving yards, and his 65 today upped his total 2,057, as he passed Javon Green (2,031) into sixth place all-time. He now has 17 touchdown catches, tying him for fourth all-time with Green (he is trailing Rae Carruth and Derek McCoy, each with 20, and Michael Westbrook, who had 19). He also extended his regular season streak to 39 games with at least one reception (every game of his career, 40 including postseason).
WR TONEY CLEMONS (3-85, 1 TD) The Michigan transfer had his best game as a Buff to date, and his 73-yard touchdown reception tied for the 36th longest in CU history. It was the longest play in the Dan Hawkins Era, topping a 68-yard pass for a score from Cody Hawkins to Riar Geer at Nebraska on Nov. 28, 2008.
TWO FOR 'YOUNG' WR Paul Richardson's reception marked the first two-point conversion scored by a CU freshman since Sept. 30, 2000, when QB Craig Ochs ran one in against Kansas State; that is the only other 2-point conversion by a freshman in CU history.
TODAY'S PUNCH vs. PUNCH WINNER: COLORADO. Hawai'i came in 24th in the nation in total offense (470.5 yards per game), but were held to 133.5 under that average (and the Warriors didn't get their yards against cupcakes like half the nation did at least once); CU on defense came in ranked 41st in yards allowed (300.5), surrendering just 100 after halftime.
COLORADO INJURIES CB Paul Vigo (lower leg injury); he will be out for 4-6 weeks. He started at nickel back, and is the third player at the position to be lost for extensive time in as many games (S Parker Orms was lost for the season against CSU, S Travis Sandersfeld for 4-6 weeks at California). No other injuries reported by the training staff.
Hawai'i Postgame Notes
- Colorado evened the all-time series, 1-1. The teams met just once before with Hawai'i winning 13-0 on Jan. 1, 1925 in Honolulu.
- The teams will meet again next year in Honolulu in the 2011 season opener on Sept. 3.
- UH dropped to 2-13-1 all-time against current members of the Big 12 Conference.
- UH fell to 0-11-1 in its last 12 games against Big 12 teams.
- UH is 2-4 in non-conference road games under head coach Greg McMackin.
- The 80-yard connection between quarterback Bryant Moniz and slot reciver Kealoha Pilares in the first quarter were career longs for each player.
- Moniz finshed with 300+ yards for the second straight game and sixth time in his career after going 27-of-41 for 330 yards.
- Pilares' 7-yard touchdown in the first quarter was his team leading fifth touchdown of the year. He has scored in each of the first three games.
- Pilares finished with six catches for 117 yards and has eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark in each game this season.
- Scott Enos missed his first field goal this year when he was wide on a 20-yard attempt in the first quarter. Enos is 6-of-7 on field goals this year after going 2-of-3 today.
- UH shutout a road opponent in the first half for the first time since 2005 (at Idaho).
- Greg Salas has caught a pass in 30 straight games dating back to his sophomore season, the sixth longest active streak in the country.
- Junior linebacker Corey Paredes finished with a career high 16 tackles.
- Making their first career starts for UH on defense were freshman cornerback John Hardy Tuilau and junior linebacker Aaron Brown.
- UH has not won consecutive non-conference road games since 1994-95 (def. California, 21-7, Sept. 17, 1994 and def. UNLV, 58-30, Sept. 30, 1995).
