Colorado, Georgia Quotes

November 28, 2011 | Men's Basketball

Colorado Head Coach Tad Boyle

General- "That was a great win for our program, especially where we are in the development stages right now, playing a lot of young players. It wasn't pretty and it wasn't easy but I'm really proud of our team. Overall I was really pleased with our team performance, and I thought we had some great individual performances as well. Andre Roberson had some unbelievable rebounds, that kid is incredible."

On Difference In The Second Half- "Our ball-screen defense was the whole key, we were breaking down on the ball-screen and they would come off that thing down-hill with a head of steam. They are so athletic and so fast, it was really hard for us to get a hand in their face which made it like shooting fish in a barrel for them and they were just knocking them down. That was the difference in the second half, we really guarded those ball-screens a lot better."

On Spencer Dinwiddie- "It was great to see him have a performance like he did tonight. The thing I love about Spencer is he has such a belief in himself and I love how he came out aggressive tonight and attacked the basket. That's the Spencer Dinwiddie we know, and we recruited him because of that."

On Askia Booker- "Askia is an energizer bunny for our team. He is an essential guy to bring off the bench, he plays with such reckless abandon and energy. He is fearless, and he knows he is going to make mistakes but he learns from them. I had more confidence with Askia on the defensive end than I have all year, and that shows growth and progress. We know Askia can make plays."

On Coming From Behind To Win Games- "Our thought for the day was together we can do anything. I though you saw that with this team in the last three games. Our players came together when we had to come together, against Air Force we did that and against Western Michigan we came together when we needed to. Against Maryland we did not do that, but that shows progress and growth which is encouraging. I would like to be a 40-minute team and come out of the gates and dominate, but when we don't do that we have to come together."

On Importance Of Starting Season Strong- "I think it's critical, especially the way the schedule lines up for us. This game Wednesday night at Colorado State is a big game. If we can take care of business somehow and sneak out of Fort Collins with a win, the schedule sets up (nicely) for this team. I think we can gain a lot of confidence heading into conference play, especially because we do not go on the road again. It's not going to be Wednesday night, Colorado State has a competitive, scrappy, tough bunch of kids and it's a quick turnaround. This is good for us to only have one day to prepare, and it will be a great challenge for this team."

Georgia Head Coach Mark Fox

On starting off hot in the first half, then cold in the second-"We're just really inexperienced offensively and we have some droughts and unfortunately we started the second half with one."

On the loss-"We just realize that we have a young group. We have to give credit to Colorado for making good plays too, but we just didn't play a complete enough game to beat a really good team."

On finishing strong-"We had some success on our press and we got a couple of balls to go in for the three and they had some foul shots rimmed out on them. We were able to get back in it. But we needed one more basket."

On not giving up in the end-"We are a competitive group. These guys are working hard and playing hard. We needed to play mistake free because Colorado is a good club."

  Colorado Student-Athletes

Andre Roberson, Sophomore, Forward

On what got you going after a slow start-"Our defense. We picked it up on the defensive end. That motivated our offense."

On making adjustments at halftime-"We picked it up on the rebounds. I didn't feel like I was doing too well in the beginning, but it turned out to be a win."

"Ball screens, we showed up earlier and that is what got us into foul trouble in the beginning."

On thinking whether Georgia would continue to shoot well in the second half-"We didn't think so. We were contesting them really well. All shots don't fall when you have a hand in your face. It was good I thought it was going to be another repeat of Texas."

On the depth of the team- "It's definitely an adjustment, but we've got good guys on our team and everybody can play a significant role on this team. I feel like we are pretty deep and can go far."

On Being Back at Home-"It's been a while. I feel like that's one of our advantages, our home court. We have a real great crowd, and I feel like we are going to do well here."

Askia Booker, Freshman, Guard

On the effect of high altitude on Georgia-"Most definitely, that's when they weren't making shots. Your form isn't always the same when you're tired. So in the second half, I could tell they were fatigued. They were trying to use their bench, but if the bench isn't prepared then it wears on you a little bit."

On the game plan for Caldwell-Pope: "Stay aggressive on him. He's going to hit shots regardless... he's a good player. Like coach kept saying, he's not going to keep knocking shots for 40 minutes-so keep being aggressive."

On driving more-"Coach told us to be more aggressive tonight. They are pretty big on the inside, so we tried to get them into foul trouble. Just try to attack their bigs and once they sink in, get our bigs open and that was pretty much the game plan."

On drawing three fouls in under a minute-"It was just a spark for us. That's my role, come off the bench and spark the team as soon as possible, as fast as a I can. So I felt that got us going a little faster and got us into our motion a little bit more...Most definitely, once you get some shots going, get your teammate involved, it's a confidence booster."

On his adjustment to altitude-"When I first came out here I worked out with Carlon Brown and I almost passed out."

On Colorado State-"It's an in-state rivalry. It's a big rivalry game for us and it's important to see who the best in Colorado is. We already beat Air Force, CSU is next, we need to prove that we are the best."

Spencer Dinwiddie, Freshman, Guard

On his success-"Just coming out and looking to my teammates who are telling me to play aggressive. Those are the types of things I expect out of myself and it was rough, but I thank my teammates and my coach."

On being emotional-"That's always good as a player when you get going into the flow of the game, and start feeling it. It's a snowball effect. I think a testament of a true player is how you get out of a slump, and when you don't start well that's when you have to pull back and get your game going."

On altitude-"Now it's normal. Coming back from Puerto Rico those first few days we felt it and coming out here for the first time it was a huge adjustment. Now I'm pretty used to it."

On his minutes-"Of course I've got to play within the flow of the offense. Part of the change from high school to where I'm at now is I need to score for the Buffs."
