Buffs Finish Day 1 Strong At Jim Click Combined Events Meet

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Colorado junior Alex Von Hagen is in fourth place overall to lead the Buffs after the first day of the men's decathlon at the Jim Click Combined Events meet at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Thursday.

Von Hagen recorded 3,649 points in the first five events of the decathlon and performed personal records in a pair of those events. His first PR came in the long jump after placing second with a jump of 22 feet, 8 inches in his third attempt. Von Hagen's second PR was in the shot put as he launched a toss of 37-05 to place 13th overall. Von Hagen didn't PR in the high jump, but placed second after clearing a height of 6-05.50 on his final attempt at that height. He also placed 11th in the 100-meters (11.45 seconds) and was sixth in the 400 (51.47). 

Eddie Taylor and Brock Emory are 11th and 12th, respectively, after the first day. Taylor recorded 3,412 points. He had one PR on the day, which was in the shot put, with a throw of 38-10.50 for ninth-place. Taylor tied two personal bests after running 11.21 in the 100 and jumping 6-00.75 in the high jump.

Emory notched 3,375 points with four personal records. He started the day with a time of 11.62 in the 100 and jumped 20-03.50 in the long jump. Emory also recorded a throw of 37-03 in the shot put and reached a height of 6-05.50 in the high jump to tie for second with Von Hagen.

Adam Salzmann is currently in 17th-place overall with 2,691 points.

Holly Odneal and Genny Mayden competed in the women's heptathlon. Odneal is in 10th with 2,881 points and Mayden is 11th with 2,771 after the first day. Volunteer assistant coach Emily Pearson recorded 3,297 points in the first four events to place second overall.

Odneal had a great day recording four personal bests. She ran 15.13 in the 100-meter hurdles and jumped 5-05.25 in the high jump which tied for third overall at the meet. She threw the shot put 35-08 to place fourth in that event and ended the day by running 27.60 in the 200.

Mayden was competing in her first collegiate heptathlon and did quite well. She ran 15.72 in the 100-hurdles and jumped a PR of 5-01.75 in the high jump. Mayden equaled Odneal's performance in the shot put, tying for fourth overall with a throw of 35-08, and finished the day with a time of 27.60 in the 200.

The meet with conclude on Friday. The women will participate in three events (long jump, javelin and 800) and the men will compete in five more events (110-hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500).
