April 13, 2011 | Football, General, Men's Golf, Tennis, Track and Field, Women's Golf

BOULDER - CU track and field athletes Brian Owens (freshman) and Camille Logan (sophomore) receive recognition for their athletic accomplishments for the week of April 4-10.

Owens, originally from Elmer, N.J. (Woodstown), won the javelin throw at Friday's CU Invitational with the seventh best throw in CU's history. The six-foot-four redshirt freshman had a breakout performance in just his second meet as a Buffalo with a toss of 221 feet, which he recorded on his fifth attempt of the day. The throw was over 26 feet further than any other thrower would record at the event. Owens became the first Buff this season to throw over 200 feet, doing so on his third attempt (204-00). Ending the meet on a toss of 203-06, Owens' performance placed him fourth on the CU all-time performers list, just 13 inches shy of teammate Brandin Williams' top throw of 222-01, which Williams threw on May 17, 2009 to win the Big 12 Championship.

Logan, originally from Littleton, Colo. (Littleton), placed first in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 25.96 seconds at the CU Invitational. The sophomore distance runner came close to setting the Potts Field record for the event, which is currently held by Sally Kipyego who ran a 4:25.00 in 2008 at the Big 12 Championship. CU went 1-2 in the race as Logan's teammate Shalaya Kipp placed second in the event with a time of 4:29.63. Logan's time, after converted for the altitude (4:19.62), is the fifth fastest time this season in the NCAA.
