Tennis Falls To No. 44 Red Raiders
April 15, 2011 | Tennis
The Red Raiders have now won 12 of their last 14 matches, improving to 16-5 overall and to 6-2 in Big 12 Conference play, while the Buffaloes drop to 3-15 and 0-8 in the conference. It was TTU's first win in Boulder since 1984, breaking a six-match losing streak. CU still holds the head-to-head series record at 16-9.
"The scores don't show it, but our girls ultimately competed like Buffalo warriors," CU head coach Nicole Kenneally said. "Sometimes, it's not about the winning and losing, but it's about how you go out and compete. I think everyone did that today and gave everything they could. As a coach, it's all that I can ask."
The Red Raiders won the doubles point, a feat they have accomplished in all six Big 12 wins this season. From there, the visitors continued their momentum in singles play taking five and six slots in straight sets.
Freshman Winde Janssens was the lone CU player who nearly secured a point for the home team falling in a third set pro-set, 11-9 after splitting the first two sets. It's the third straight match the freshman from Peer, Belgium has played a match decided by the final set.
Colorado is back in action on Sunday at 11 a.m. taking on the No. 7 ranked Baylor Bears (19-3, 7-1) at the South Campus Courts.
