Men Finish 1-2-3 At Glenn Morris

April 22, 2011 | Track and Field

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Alex Von Hagen, Eddie Taylor and Brock Emory went 1-2-3 in the decathlon at the Glenn Morris Combined Events Meet to lead the University of Colorado track and field team on Friday afternoon.

Von Hagen won the meet with 6,667 points and Taylor was the runner-up with 6,327. Emory was third with 6,027.

Von Hagen had a good day, winning three of the five events. He won the discus with a throw of 119 feet, 9 inches and the javelin with a toss of 154-10. Von Hagen finished the day and the decathlon with a first-place finish in the 1,500-meter run; clocking a time of 4 minutes, 47.24 seconds. He did well in the other two events as he was second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.15) and second in the pole vault (12-08.75).

Genny Mayden led the Buffalo women with a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon. She came away with 4,434 points and was just 66 points shy of automatically qualifying for the U.S.A. Junior Championships this summer. Mayden was fifth in the long jump (16-09.75), ninth in the javelin (88-05) and seventh in the 800 (2:34.95).

Katie Dreher finished fifth overall (4,432) and Holly Odneal recorded 4,338 points for seventh. Dreher had a strong showing in the final two events of the day as she placed second in the javelin with a throw of 109-11 and won the 800 in 2:23.74.

Volunteer assistant coach Emily Pearson won the heptathlon with 5,498 points.

"We finished the meet with at least one season best if not a lifetime best for each athlete," assistant coach Lindsey Malone said. "The wind was the strongest competitor today and the team fought a hard battle against it all day long. Genny Mayden led the women's team and just missed the USA Junior National qualifying mark. I was very impressed with her competitive drive today. Alex Von Hagen had another strong meet and adds another win to his combined event career. I feel very fortunate to have such a strong group of athletes who truly love track and field and competing for the Buffaloes."

The Buffs are back in action on Saturday at the Jack Christiansen Invitational in Fort Collins, while a few sprinters will compete at the LSU Alumni Gold meet (Baton Rouge, La).
