Bosshard Advances To NCAA 10k Finals

May 27, 2011 | Track and Field

EUGENE, Ore.- University of Colorado sophomore Joe Bosshard became the first Buff to punch a ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after taking eighth in the semifinals of the men's 10,000-meter run.

Bosshard finished the race in 29 minutes, 15.57 seconds late on Thursday night at the NCAA West Preliminary Championship at Hayward Field. The top 12 runners in the 10k moved on to the finals on June 9 at 8:50 p.m. CT.

Bosshard ran a solid race to move onto the finals. He was always in the top 20 of the field and after the first 4k, Bosshard held his position in the top 10 for the rest of the race. He moved into second place as he entered the bell lap, but couldn't keep pace with the immediate group behind him. Stanford's Elliott Heath won the race in 29:11.44.

Joe Morris advanced to the quarterfinals in the men's 100 on Friday after clocking a time of 10.39 in the first round. He got out of the blocks quickly and ran a very good race despite the wet and rainy conditions at the time. Morris finished second overall in his heat behind TCU's Charles Silmon (10.29). His time was the eighth fastest on the day.

Liz Tremblay also advanced to the quarterfinals in the women's 800 on Friday, finishing 22nd overall with a time of 2:08.10. Tremblay was in seventh in her heat after the first 400 meters. As she went around the final turn, Tremblay started to pick off runners and coming down the home stretch she moved into fourth. Tremblay came close to taking the third spot, but was .11 seconds off of Justine Diaz's (UC Santa Barbara) time of 2:07.99.

The NCAA Preliminaries are the first step to quality athletes for the NCAA Championship June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa. There are two championship preliminaries (west and east) this weekend. Both meets will continue on Friday and Saturday. Live results are available at flashresults.com and a live stream of the track events is available at goducks.com.
