Colorado-Idaho Quotes
November 11, 2012 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe
General
“Win number one is good to get, it feels good. You have to give Idaho a lot of credit, they came out they fought, they kept coming at us which was great. It was a great game for us to be able to be in. It was great to play somebody else other than ourselves. We have a lot of things to work on but we are happy where we are at, we are happy about the things we got better at in the second half. I thought our execution was better in the second half. ?We had a lot of different players step up in crucial situations which was good to see.”
On Getting The Jitters Out
“In the first half it was a little bit sloppier than I wanted it to be. I thought coming out of our timeouts we didn't execute very well, we addressed that at half time.? We did a much better job out of the second half of scoring or at least getting a shot out of a timeout, and being a little bit more careful with the ball, which you could see in our turnovers.”
Offensive Rebounds For Idaho
“We were kind of standing around and watching too much. We pulled them down when we needed to pull them down, I thought Jen (Reese), Arielle (Roberson), and Meagan (Malcolm-Peck) got in there and got some good ones. Our guards got in there and rebounded a little bit. They were tough on the glass and really got in there every single time and it tested our box outs.”
On Arielle Roberson
“Arielle did some really good things. I thought in the second half there was one stretch coming after she came off the bench, we really needed her to step up and she did that. She got some offensive rebounds, she had some nice scores around the rim and she gave us confidence. I think down the stretch she did a better job of defending, she got her hands up. She just scored a lot of different ways tonight. Our team did a nice job of finding her and she did a nice job of finishing tonight.”
On Expecting This For Arielle
“That is who Arielle is, she can score in a lot of different ways, and she is going to play multiple positions. She is very good in space because she is quick, and I think she is going to keep getting better than what we saw tonight. She is going to keep getting stronger, and she is going to be able to understand the flow of college basketball. She sat out a whole year, and she didn't play at all in practice or games and so for her to get back into game mode, I think she is still going to get better and better.”
On The Balance Of The Team
“Everybody gave us great minutes tonight. Players off the bench came in and did their job; I thought Kyleesha (Weston), Ashley (Wilson), Jasmine (Sborov) all came in off the bench and gave us some good minutes. Everybody stepped up at different time. I felt like no one player dominated the game at one time, and I think that is what you want to see. Jen really stepped up in the second half I think she scored like four straight points, Lexy (Kresl) hit a couple of threes to start off the second half which was huge for us to get us going in the right direction. Brittany Wilson came in and I think was just pretty steady, playing a position that she is not normally playing and doing a great job.”
On Idaho And Three Point Shooting
“We have seen it; we saw it a little bit last year. They have quick releases and they get off shots fast. But I think shooting always depends on your defense, it doesn't matter how good of a shooting team they are, you can dictate how well they shoot it of by how well you play defense. They can hit threes when there is no hand in their face, and they showed that tonight.”
On Fell Of The Game
“”It felt close the entire game. I think that was good for our players to feel that, it puts a little bit more pressure on the players, when teams hang tight and it is a close game, and it feels like a close game. ?It kept us on our toes; we had to be ready every single possession If we let our guard down, they would score, I felt like they took advantage of our mistakes, and that is going to be really good for us to go back look at film and teach our players.” ?

On Opening Jitters
“I think you always have first game jitters. I had them in our exhibition game and still had a little left over tonight. I think winning a close game was good for us. We were able to get our jitters out early because obviously if we didn't then we wouldn't have gotten that W tonight.”
On The Close Game
“It was definitely tighter than we thought it was going to be. I think you see what we are saying about this team being so special now. It was an early game and you never think your first game is going to be so close, but it was. We were able to come together as a team, we fought until the end and ended up coming up on top.”
On Team's Depth
“The beauty of this team is that we are so deep. You never know who is going to step up and when. Arielle [Roberson] had a great game and put up 16 points and other people contributed the best way they could. I think all the girls take full advantage of the time they get on the floor and it's great for us.”
Arielle Roberson, Fr., F
On Her Debut
“It was definitely nerve wracking at first. Warming up I was definitely nervous. I think my teammates did a good job of keeping me grounded. I just wanted to go out and play like I know I can and show everybody what I can bring to this team. My family was here and of course it was my first game, so of course that is extra motivation to do well. I also don't like to lose so I think my drive to win was definitely a good push.”
On If Early Buckets Helped Calm Nerves
“Those buckets settled me in a little bit. I think that's the case with anyone who gets early buckets, especially if they are easy. Those buckets definitely brought the jitters down that I had and helped me to focus for the rest of the game.”
On Last Minute Steal
“I knew that I did not want them to score and that we could not have them score. I think I was just in the right place at the right time and we all took care of our business. I was just lucky and came up with the steal.”
On Having Family Here
“This win was a great ending to the weekend. It was good to have them here. Seeing my little sisters and my parents finally, also my brother; I also have my second family here. I feel like there is nothing better you can ask for. We got the victory and I have my family, so, that's good.”
On Competition With Older Brother [CU Men's Player Andre Roberson]
“We don't try to put any pressure on each other or any kind of competition. If there is some, it's not coming from us.”
Idaho Head Coach Jon Newlee
General
“We had a great practice last night. We decided to put Friday's loss (at Wyoming) behind us and we really came out and competed. That's what we're looking for. With the freshman, you have to just live with some of their shot selections. We talked about that. I did tell them that I liked the fact that they had the guts to take those. We could have made some better decisions down the stretch, that's for sure, but we battled and we competed and we fought until the end. We had a good shot to win this basketball game and we'll learn from it and we'll keep getting better.”
On Alyssa Charlston's Performance
“We expect that stuff out of Alyssa. She was a first-team All-WAC last year as a sophomore. She came back even better this year. Once she finally started getting going, she really sparked us and got us back in the basketball game after CU made their run. She's a very talented basketball player.”?
On Colorado's Chucky Jeffery being absent from the game
“She took over the end of our game last year. Colorado plays hard, with or without Chucky. Our kids didn't really notice that she wasn't playing, despite her effort last year.”
