On Being A
Tough Game To Win
"You know, if you looked up 'winning
ugly' in the dictionary in today's world you would probably see a youtube video
of this one. You have to find a way to win when you don't play your best, and
we obviously ran into that in the second half. We had two points I think, what,
in the first eight minutes or nine minutes, whatever it was. We were dribbling
it off our feet, we were missing point blank layups, we didn't play our best,
obviously, but we found a way. Before the game we talked about how we wanted to
see progress in our defensive field goal percentage and our rebounding. We were
plus seven on the boards, and we held them to 29 percent (field goal
percentage); it was our best defensive performance all year, so that's
progress."
On Offensive
Struggles
"We've got good players, and you know they are really coachable, they
are trying. We just talked about wanting to get great shots, and for the most
part, I thought we had two bad shots tonight; I thought 'Ski [Booker] took one
and he made it and I thought Spencer [Dinwiddie] took one and he missed it, but
for the most part we had good shots. And, that is what we are looking for, but
that doesn't mean we are tentative. I thought our guys were a little bit
tentative offensively, and 18 turnovers, you have to take better care of the
ball. But the first half, we shot 52 percent, but we turned it over nine times,
so as long as we can take care of the basketball - which is decision making and
skill development - we have a break coming up and we need it. We need practice
time, guys need to get their body's healthy, and we need to get better
individually and we need to get better as a team. We have to get better
offensively, because it was tough tonight."
On Where Team
Is At
"Like I said after the Texas Southern game when we went into this
stretch, we could be 6-4; but were not, were 8-2 and I told our team, it is a
good time to reflect on what has gone on, learn from what we need to learn
from, but also look forward and get better. And the way we get better is in
practice, and I look at the KU team we played last Saturday, and they had 10
days off before they played us. And I told (his players), 'guys we have to
improve and we have to be a different Colorado team on December 21st
when we take the floor against Northern Arizona and it has to between the ears,
it's got to be in the heart. The thing about this team is they have heart, they
do. I was really proud of grinding out a win, on the road, when we didn't play
our best, especially in the second half. But we all know there is a lot of room
for improvement; and that is the exciting thing, we are 8-2 and a lot of room
for improvement. But we better get better quick because we are going to be
playing much better teams than Fresno State. No disrespect to Fresno, they have
a lot of heart on that team but they are struggling a little bit to score."
On Andre
Roberson
"Yeah, Andre, he was
special on the boards tonight. And what was amazing was he had 20 rebounds and
he didn't box out once. I was on him every time out in the second half, [Jerry]
Brown was on coming up his tail. But, Andre, I'm just so proud of him for
knocking down those last two free throws. I told him, 'hey I'm not taking you
out of the game, it is time to step up' and he did. But again, if you make
(some free throws) and make it easier on yourself; but you have to find a way
to overcome when you don't play well and our team did that tonight. So, for
that I'm proud of them, we got our first road win. But, I want to talk about
this after a win, because I'm not going to talk about it after a loss; we have
four freshman and two sophomores in our top eight rotation, and that is youth,
and we have to learn and get better and they will. But I think the expectations
sometimes, and we said that a little before the season, might be a little ahead
of where this team is. And I think people that watch the Buffaloes and follow
us get that. But we all want, we all want more, and our players do to and that
is why the future is bright."

On Recording
Career-High 20 Rebounds
"You know, (Sports Information Director) Andrew [Green] has been nagging at me to get 20 rebounds for a while, and I just finally put my mind to it, you know my dad also told me in a text message, 'go out there, rebound your butt off, and try to get 20' and I finally put my mind to it and went out there and did it."
On Getting
First Road Win Of The Season
"We always wanted to get that one road win under our belt.
Unfortunately, we couldn't get it at Wyoming to start it early. But, I feel
like our guys are really starting to come along and get better as a team day-by-day.
I think it just starts in practice.
On Lessons
Being Learned Over Last Four Games
"Definitely, lessons are learned after every loss I feel
like. I think the KU (loss) was a good one for example; we got blown-out by
almost 40 but I feel like our guys know what to expect now from top-notch
competition and to show that we have a long way to go. Also the Wyoming (loss)
shows that you can never take your eye of the prize and take a team for
granted."
On Strengths
And Weaknesses Of The Team
"I'm feeling pretty good
about this team, our weakness right now is still finishing games and defending
an rebounding, although, we did a great job tonight as a team collectively. I just
feel like our offense is really not clicking yet, and we still rely on our
individual talent to score. Our motion is not as (good as it should be) as
well. We just need to continue to get better, coach puts in little knacks and
stuff to help the motion get a little bit better, so that is all we have to do.
I'm definitely feeling good, it just shows how much potential we have."
