Colorado, Arizona Quotes

February 10, 2012 | Men's Basketball

Head coach Tad Boyle

On the intensity of the team:

"Our effort and determination were definitely there. Our game just wasn't there in the second half to beat a good Arizona team at home."

Is this Arizona team different than the one you saw in Colorado?

"No, but they are playing with a lot of confidence. They were shoothing the ball a bit better in their home arena than in ours though. They know who they are as a team, the were playing well defensively and the free-throw advantage was in their favor and that made the difference in the game."

On their strategy against ASU:

"We have to talk about it. They are a much better team at home than they are on the road. We have to go take care of business up there. We are still in the race for the Pac-12, we are tied with Arizona now and the schedule is not in our favor but this is a critical weekend for us."

On Angelo Chol's influence on the game:

"When he hit that 17 foot jumper, oh my God. That was the shot we wanted. We were playing a good team at home that has their mojo going."

How will your recruits help in the paint next season?

"I expect it to change a lot. When we did get the ball into the paint and into Austin [Dufault]  it was good, but our new recruits will help us out a lot."

On the energy of the team in the second half:

"I didn't use our bench as much in the second half. That was my fault. I thought our guys being gassed was on the coach in this case."

On the atmosphere in McKale:

"It is a great place for college basketball, it has a great college atmosphere. It is the kind of place you want to play on the road."

Comparing Arizona and UCLA with Big-12 arenas:

"I think U of A is right there. UCLA has the sports arena so the 9,000 fans didn't seem like that many, I will be able to better judge that next season. But as far as Arizona, it's as good as any Big-12 arena. There is more of that in the Big-12 and that's why we want Colorado to be in the same breath as McKale."

#33 Austin Dufault

On Arizona's game play:

"I don't think they made many changes in their game play from the last time we saw them. I think we played well in spurts, but we weren't able to get stops and execute tonight. I have to give them credit - they are always a confident team. They played well, and they killed us on the boards. I think we let the crowd get to us a little bit tonight."

On McKale:

"McKale is a great place to play. They have great fans, and it was just like I expected based on what I had heard from other people coming into this game. It looked like a sellout, and they have a great student section and great support."

On the missed opportunity by losing the game:

"This game was a huge opportunity for us. We wanted to come in and get this win to get ahead and separate ourselves, but because we lost we're right back in the thick of it. We'll have to play well and bounce back in the upcoming games."

"We need to be able to win on the road in order to do what we want to do; we want to win a Pac-12 conference title, that's been our goal since day one. In future games we just need to buckle down and execute."

On fast paced start:

"I think both teams were really excited coming out of the gate. Tonight was a big matchup and a big game. I think that was the main reason for the sharp start. Then I think everyone started getting tired - I mean, there weren't any time outs for the longest time - and the fouls started happening."

On moving forwards:

"We just need to learn from this game. We need to take a look and see what we did well, and what we didn't do well. We need to be better on the glass, execute, and not let the crowd get to us. Future games are not to be taken lightly."

On the team:

"I'll never question the heart of our team. We're a tough group of guys, we just need to execute on both ends of the court. We're tough; we just didn't show up enough tonight."

#30 Carlon Brown

On outcome of the game:

"We couldn't execute. We couldn't rebound. We couldn't stop plays like we do at home. Arizona did a good job with their defense and on the outside, and we just couldn't make shots."

General game comments:

"Arizona was able to hit shots tonight that they missed in our gym - I think they had six guys in double digits tonight - and they played a lot better. They caught on to the crowd's energy like we did when we were home, and got called to the line more than we did. We just needed to suck it up and find other ways to do that, but we weren't able to close."

On chances of winning the conference:

"Our chances really depend on how the other teams do. We can't control how they play - we just need to control our own destiny, and we weren't able to do that tonight. We just need to regroup and be quick to get going tomorrow. We have a fast turnaround, and we need to prepare to play as a team."
