Women's Golf Matches Best Ranking In Program History

February 23, 2012 | Women's Golf

BOULDER - The University of Colorado women's golf team moved up in both the Golfweek and Golfstat rankings, released earlier this week.  The Buffaloes are ranked No. 17 by Golfstat and No. 19 by Golfweek.  The GolfWorld coaches poll hasn't released rankings as of yet this spring.
In both polls, the Buffs match program bests for highest ranking and both rankings are the best in CU history in the spring.  The Buffaloes were also No. 17 in the first Golfweek ranking this season and they reached No. 19 in golfweek mid-fall on October 16.
Senior Emily Talley soared up both lists, earning a No. 55 ranking by Golfweek and No. 66 by Golfstat.  To end last fall she was No. 102 and 101, respectively.  Sophomore Alex Stewart is currently No. 70 by Golfweek and No. 79 by Golfstat while senior Jessica Wallace is No. 132 by Golfweek and No. 199 by Golfstat.  Jenny Coleman comes in at No. 182 by Golfweek while her sister, Kristin Coleman, is No. 234 by Golfweek.
Those five will represent the Buffaloes as they continue their toughest schedule in program history with a trip to New Orleans to take part in the 2012 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship, hosted by Tulane at the English Turn Golf and Country Club.  Action there starts Sunday and concludes Tuesday.
The 15-team field is an impressive one as all 15 teams rank in the nation's top 60 including three of the top four teams in the latest rankings, with No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Auburn and No. 4 Southern California in the field.  Nine of the nation's top 20 teams are in attendance, including the 17th-ranked Buffaloes.
