Colorado-Utah Notes
November 30, 2013 | Football
Players who carried out CU's symbolic instruments today:
Sledgehammer: Daniel Munyer          Toolbox: Nate BonsuÂ
QUICKLY Colorado wore all white uniforms for the first time since the 2010 finale at Nebraska (Nov. 26) and wore them for the first time with the black helmets; CU has lost six straight games wearing all white (last win: at Nebraska, Nov. 26, 2004) and is now 1-8 when wearing black helmets (eight straight losses) … Utah's starting right offensive tackle, Siaoi Aiono, is the son of former CU guard, Junior Ili (1981-85) …
WR Nelson Spruce's 32-yard completion to QB Sefo Liufau was the first completion to a quarterback since Oct. 20 last year, when Jordan Webb caught a 15-yard pass from Spruce at USC (Spruce is now 2-of-2 for 47 yards in his career as a passer) ... Colorado was shut out in the first half of back-to-games since the Stanford and Washington games last year … The Buffs ran 10 first half plays in plus territory for a net minus-1 yard … Â
Colorado recovered an onside kick to open the second half; the Buffs had been 0-of-their-last 8 in onside kick tries; the last recovery of one was on Sept. 11, 2009 (Jeff Smart at Toledo) … CU outscored Utah 14-3 in the second half and outgained the Utes, 209-158 … Colorado had three fumbles today, for a total of 14 for the season; that is a school low for an 11-plus game season, as the old best was just 18 fumbles in the 1993 and 2004 seasons …
WR PAUL RICHARDSON (4-54-0 TD) When all was said and done for 2013, "P-Rich" finished with 83 catches for 1,343 yards, 16.2 per, with 10 touchdowns. Those are CU single-season records for receptions and yards, and the second-most TDs to 11 by Derek McCoy in 2003.Â
- Career: 156-2,412-21 TD. Those numbers rank him third in receptions (behind Scotty McKnight, 215, 2007-10 and Michael Westbrook, 167, 1991-94); still fifth in yards (137 out of the top spot, 35 behind Charles E. Johnson in fourth, 2,447, 1990-93) and he is second in touchdowns (one back of McKnight's 22).
- He earned three first downs receiving, giving him 50 for the year and breaking McKnight's season record of 47 in 2009.
- His 10 TDs covered 470 yards, or 47.0 per; his 21 career have spanned 841 yards (40.0), both second in school history.
QB SEFO LIUFAU (46-23-1, 241, 2 TD) The 241 yards gave him 1,779 for the season, eclipsing by one yard the most passing yards in a season by a true freshman (Craig Ochs had 1,779 in 2000; Cody Hawkins passed for 2,693 as a redshirt frosh in 2007).  Liufau also set true frosh marks for attempts (251), completions (149) and TD passes (12).
TB MICHAEL ADKINS (10-38-0 TD)Â He rushed for the sixth-most yards by a freshman in school history (fifth by a true frosh):

LINER NOTES
- TE Scott Fernandez (4-61, 1 TD) caught his second career touchdown, covering 34 yards from QB Sefo Liufau; his two career TD's have covered 105 yards, or 52.5 yards per (he had a 71-yard grab at Arizona last year). Â He also caught a career-high four passes (he had two on two previous occasions).
- ILB Addison Gillam (14 TT, unofficial until coaches video review) will finish the season regardless as the first freshman and just the sixth underclassman to lead CU in tackles; he unofficially has 118; he also likely set a record for the most plays by a freshman on defense; he came in with 761 and CU was out on defense for 77 total; if he played every snap, and he was close to it, he likely broke Greg Henderson's mark of 823 in 2011 (he needed 62 to catch him). Addison also made his first career interception.
four passes (he had two on two previous occasions).
- DE Chidera Uzo-Diribe may have forced a fumble in the third quarter; upon video review that will be confirmed later today or Sunday; if so, it would give him six on the season (he is the nation's co-leader) and would tie Brian Cabral for the CU career mark of 11 he set from 1974-77.
- P Darragh O'Neill (8-38.0, 3 In20) tied the school record for career punts (216, with Matt DiLallo, 2006-09) and broke Jon Torp's record of 65 punts inside-the-20, as he now has 68; he also holds the school career mark of the most inside-the-10 with 25 and set the season record with 10 (one today), breaking Mark Mariscal's high of nine in 2002. He ended the day with 9,142 career punting yards, second to Torp's 9,145.
- PK Will Oliver as now made 60 consecutive PAT kicks (six sjy of the school mark, completing his second perfect season in a row by going 30-of-30; with 81 points this year, he led the team in scoring for a third straight year, just the fourth player to do so.
COLORADO INJURIES SS Parker Orms (shoulder sprain), ILB Derrick Webb (stinger). Older: OLB Woodson Greer (stinger), WR Devin Ross (concussion), ILB Brady Daigh (lower leg bruise), CB John Walker (hip) CB Harrison Hunter (concussion) all were on the trip but were not cleared to play.
