Colorado-TCU Quotes
March 19, 2014 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe
General
“We're extremely excited to have our season continuing; we're at a good spot right now, and it was nice to have some time off. It was also good to get back into the flow of things and get the rust off. I liked how we started the game, but we didn't do a good job in letting them come all the way back, but I did like our composure when that happened. We came out and really started attacking their zone and press, which was a huge key and we got some easy baskets off of that.”
On Handling TCU's Full Court Press
“TCU's a good team; they're quick, they're athletic and they cause a lot of problems just with their pressure. We wanted to be stronger and have better cuts through the center of the defense. Once we got past that first line of trapping and to the middle, we wanted to attack the basket. I liked how we handled it [the press] at the end of the game.”
On Offensive Performance Against Zone
“We handled that [TCU's zone defense] well. One of our goals was to go inside-out and you saw us hit a lot of open shots. That was because we had great interior passes and our posts did a great job of kicking out to the wide-open shooters. Any time you can go inside-out, those three's turn into the shots you take in practice, so I really liked how we moved the ball.”
On High Point Contribution from Bench
“I thought everyone that came in was solid. [Desiree Harris] gave us some good minutes; Lauren [Huggins] gave us some good minutes; Zoe [Beard-Fails] gave us some good minutes. What that allowed us to do was keep everybody fresh and we also wanted to try and get our young kids some post-season experience. You could see a lot of the hard work that they put in over this past week carry over into today.”

On the Win
“We're very, very happy [to continue the season]. Not every team gets this opportunity to continue postseason play, so it's great for us to continue to play with our seniors, and I know it's great to get this home win. I don't know if words can describe it, but we're just really happy.”
On TCU as a Team
“They were a tough team, but I think we see a lot tougher teams in the Pac-12. I guess it's just a different style of play. They had great players, but I think in the end, our defense was a little too much for them, and I think we buckled down at the right times. They were very resilient, they continued to play and they never gave up, so they were very active.”
On Team Strengths
“I think we did a really good job moving the ball. We could basically get anything we wanted. Sometimes we were just too passive and sometimes we just didn't pass the ball enough. But I think we had it in the post all night, and I think the guards also could shoot as much as they wanted, so I think it was just a matter of your mentality and if you were going to attack them or fall back on your heels.”
On Rebounding
“All of us and the coaches, we hang our head on defense and rebounding, and I think tonight we really showed that. We've been getting back to it in previous games and in practice, but I think they really harped on crashing the glass and continuing to be aggressive. I think we really crashed the glass offensively and defensively very well. They're in the zone, so they're not going to block us out, and I think that leaves a lot of rebounds to be gotten.”
On Tonight's High Bench Scoring
“I wouldn't say we're very, very deep, but we are pretty deep and everybody has the ability to score, and tonight, that really helped. In previous games, it has really helped when our bench scores, and it brings more energy for them and for us. I think we all just feed off of each other. I think it was really great that they stepped up and everybody pulled their weight.”

On The Win
“It's always fun to keep playing, so I had fun. I know Arielle had fun, I know everybody had fun. I think at this point, it's just continuing to play, have fun and win.”
On Getting the Lead Back
“I mean, everybody comes to play, and I wouldn't have been able to do it without the passes or the looks that I got from my teammates because you can't do it by yourself. As a team as a whole, I wouldn't be able to do it without them.”
On Preference for Next Round
“No, [there is no preference]. It's just whoever's next on the list.”
On Rebounding
“I think that our team builds ourselves off of our rebounding and our defense, and that's what we preach at practice, rebound and defense, rebound and defense. I think that's what Colorado basketball is about. Tonight I think we showed that we're ready and our rebounding is as good as everybody says it is.”
On Tonight's High Bench Scoring
“I think everyone on the team can score, and it just depends on where they get the ball. Everybody has a certain spot where they can shoot from, so I think that our bench should score that much every game because they can score. We all can score”
