Glenn Tied For Ninth At Golfweek Conference Challenge

September 23, 2014 | Women's Golf

WOLCOTT – University of Colorado women's golfer Tori Glenn drained a hole-in-one on her first shot of the day, and is tied for ninth after the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge at Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.

Glenn along with junior Megan Haase and junior Allie Zech are playing as individuals in the tournament. The rest of the team has the week with some players under the weather.

“This course is very challenging and really makes a player take one shot at a time,” said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. “You just have to focus hard on what you are doing and where you want the ball to land. The course has very challenging greens.”

Glenn made her hole-in-one from 182 yards out on a tough par-3 10th hole before rain and hail moved in to suspend play for an hour. It was Glenn's first hole-in-one of her collegiate career and believed to be the third hole-in-one in school history. The redshirt freshman was 1-under through her first nine holes and then recorded back-to-back bogeys on the front nine to bring her to even-par 72 and tied for ninth place. She also made two birdies and led the field in par-3 scoring at 2-under par.

“I didn't really believe the ball went in,” said Glenn on her hole-in-one. “It takes skill to hit it close, but luck for it to go in and I had the luck today.”

Zech, competing in her first tournament of the season finished tied for 33rd with a 4-over par 76. The junior from Indian Wells, Calif. struggled to begin her round with a double-bogey and bogey to go 3-over, but then settled down the rest of the way. She birdied two of her final four holes to finish at 4-over. Zech was tied for second on par-4 scoring at 1-under par.

Haase, also seeing her first action of the year, carded an 85 or 13-over par through the first 18 holes of the tournament. She had a rough start to the day, opening with a triple-bogey and bogey on her first two holes, but rebounded nicely with a birdie on the next hole and finished 5-over par after nine holes. Haase struggled to close out her round, recording three straight bogeys on the final three holes and is tied for 84th place.

Pepperdine is in first place after posting a 4-under par 284 team score. The Waves also have two players tied for first overall carding a 68 or 4-under in the opening round.

The tournament continues on Tuesday with the second round beginning at 9:30 a.m. MT.
