Colorado-Washington State Quotes

January 25, 2015 | Women's Basketball

Colorado Coach Linda Lappe

On The Team's Performance Down the Stretch

"The big thing is in the last eight minutes of the game, we need to get better. Teams that we are playing against, that think they are going to beat you, are going to get better. They are going to get better defensively and offensively; they are going to crash the offensive glass harder and try to get to the free throw line. We, as a team, are not compensating for that; we're not on the attack mode. Our defense is not getting better, which it needs too. We didn't get any offensive rebounds in the last eight minutes of the game. So really, it comes down to rebounding and turnovers. It's hard to win a game where you give a team 14 extra shots and they 39 free throws."

On Ball Security

"We didn't do a great job throughout the game taking care of the basketball; hitting the open player, and we didn't do a very good job making Lexy's life easier. The wing and post players did a little too much hiding, I didn't feel like there was anyone on the floor tonight that really wanted the basketball and wanted to make plays. It's about squaring up and doing all of the little things we work on all the time. But you have to give Washington State credit they were aggressive. It was the most physical game we have played all year. There was hands and body's, so we had to adjust to that a little bit faster."

On Washington State's Mariah Cook's Performance

"I felt like a lot of her points were late into the game and it really hurt us. We were swaging off of her to apply more pressure on Tia Presley and Lia Galderia. I thought we did a nice job defending those two girls and if we can limit Cook's possessions and offensive rebounds, I think we could have walk away with the win."

On Being Able to Fix Things

"This is definitely a missed opportunity, two missed opportunities. There are some definite positives but again we have to be sharper at the end of the game. If your shots aren't falling, you have to get offensive rebounds; you have to get to the free throw line. If you're doing a great job getting stops, we as a team have to limit them to only one shot. We simply are not making enough plays down the stretch to be able to go home with the win."

Colorado Player Jamee Swan

On Not Being Able to Get Stops

"We just have to be tougher. We have to figure out how to make stops, and learn to make plays. We talk about in practice, working hard 100% of the time and there's just a small stretch, every game, we just go into lows and we don't finish. I think for us we need to really work on starting fast and now finishing strong. Our weak point at the beginning of the year was not starting fast. Well now we are starting fast, we just have to figure out how to out them together."

On Mindset Going Into Tonight

"Well, before this game I had no idea their starting post player was not suited up. We were friends and played against each other in high school and club, so it was really sad to see her down. I really enjoy playing against someone of my stature; my height and body type. After seeing her on crutches I knew that post play was going to be huge because Washington State is very guard heavy without her and their two guards are phenomenal players. Knowing that they are very guard heavy us post players knew that the game was on our shoulders. If the guards are getting pressured we have to produce and we have to score."

On Getting to Play Washington State In Boulder

"It is really nice to have the home court advantage and being in front of your own fans which will really help us. Being able to inspire the people around us that we see every day, that know our names and our families, I hope we can bring it. I would just like to have another half and then I know we would get them."
