Colorado-Arizona State Quotes
January 30, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Colorado Head Coach Linda Lappe
General
"Obviously, it's disappointing that we didn't get the win. We keep playing better and better. I liked how hard we played tonight. It was the hardest that we played all season long. We had a shot to win it. They made a few more plays down the stretch. You've got to give them [Arizona State]. [Arizona State So., F Kelsey] Moos hit their last three. She hadn't hit one; she's not really a three-point shooter. They needed to score and she stepped up and knocked it down. I thought [Arizona State Jr., G] Hempen did a nice job of hitting a couple of clutch shots with a hand right in her face. I wish we would have gotten a couple more rebounds. We did a fantastic job on the glass and a fantastic job of taking care of the basketball. Those were the two things we talked about a lot this week. I'm really proud of how our team handled their pressure and handled the ball. For us, 12 turnovers against them, is a fantastic effort by everybody. We just fell a little bit too short."
On The Team Improving Going Forward
"I think we're right there; I really like our team; I like how hard we play; I like how we came together. There was one segment in the second half where our energy was not together, but in one timeout, you got to give our team a lot of credit, they flipped it. They all came together. We have a tight-knit group and you could tell. A lot of teams that I've coached in that period of time would have gone their separate ways. Everybody would have tried to do it themselves. This team isn't like that. This team comes together. We fight harder when we're down. I thought we had our chances. It was just a little bit too late tonight."
Colorado Players
Jen Reese, Sr., F
On The Battle For Winning Close Games
"It makes me want to play harder every day, and to play to the best of our abilities as a team. We have to keep pushing."
On Where They Stand In The Pac-12
"Well, we've gotten a lot better from the beginning; even since preseason. That's just how it works. You just get better every day. We have made a huge increase since USC. We have made a lot of progress and we will continue to get better, play together and be successful."
Lexy Kresl, Sr., G
On The Battle For Winning Close Games
"It is (frustrating), but I can feel us getting better every game and a step closer every game. That's not demoralizing, that kind of uplifts you. It keeps you pushing harder. "
On Playing Without Jamee Swan (Injury)
"Yeah, anytime someone gets hurt you pick it up for them and play in honor of them. I don't know how serious it is, but she was in pain and we felt we needed to come together for her."
Arizona State Head Coach Charli Turner Thorne
On Contributions From the Bench
"Our starters are tired this year, I've played them a lot of minutes this year. We have a 9 player rotation consistently. I haven't had a year where I have played my starters over 30 minutes in a game. Quinn Dornstauder, Arnecia Hawkins were fantastic, they were a huge reason we were able to play through our funkiness."
On Adjustments Made When CU Fought Back in Second Half
"We just needed to get a stop, a big reason we've had the success that we've had this year is because of our defense and we believe in our defense. I thought we had some great individual efforts."
On Jamee Swan
"Jamee is having a great year, she's one of the top post players in our conference this year. I think we did a good job in the first half of limiting her touches. She's someone you don't want to guard one on one and we guarded her one on one too much in the beginning of the second half."
