Scott Named To Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Watch List

October 16, 2015 | Men's Basketball

BOULDER – University of Colorado senior Josh Scott was named to the 2016 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award watch list, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Friday.

A member of the watch list for the second time, Scott is one of 20 players selected to the group by a national committee. The award is named after Hall of Famer and three-time NCAA champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who played for John Wooden at UCLA from 1966-69.

Scott averaged 14.5 points and 8.4 rebounds while shooting a team-best 54.4 percent from the field as a junior. He tallied eight double-doubles in 2014-15 and was the top offensive rebounder in the Pac-12 Conference (3.4 orpg), while ranking in the top 5 in overall rebounding, blocks (1.8 bpg) and field goal percentage.

A 2013-14 All-Pac-12 First Team selection, Scott enters his final collegiate season ranking in a number of CU all-time categories including eighth in blocks (110), 10th in rebounding (692) and free throws made (358), 11th in double-doubles (23) and starts (89), 17th in minutes (2,782) and 20th in scoring (1,186).

By mid-February, the watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award will be narrowed down to 10. In March, five finalists will be presented to Abdul-Jabbar and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles on Friday, April 8, 2016.

Last season, Frank Kaminsky of Wisconsin was named the inaugural winner of the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award. For more information on the award, log onto www.HoophallAwards.com.
