Awuzie, Abu Named Athletes of the Week

BOULDER -- Chidobe Awuzie, Jr. (football) and Naghede Abu (volleyball) are the Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 19-25. Awuzie had an interception securing the win against Oregon State for the Buffs on Saturday, and Abu earned a career-high 11 blocks in a four-set road win against No. 14 Arizona.
Two of Abu's 11 blocks were solo blocks and she also added 4 kills and hit .500 on eight errorless attacks. On Saturday against No. 13 ASU, she posted seven blocks, five solo and two assists, while adding four kills and one error on seven attacks (.429).
In CU's 17-13 win at Oregon State, Awuzie recorded eight tackles (five solo), including a quarterback sack and two tackles for zero gain (thus three at or behind the line of scrimmage), two passes broken up, and an interception/fourth down stop that sealed the win for the Buffs.
The victory ended an overall 14-game losing streak in Pac-12 games, and a 13-game losing streak in conference road games. He is believed to be the first defensive back in CU history to record a sack in three straight games. Currently, he has five career sacks and the CU defensive back record is six.
