BOULDER — University of Colorado senior Alexis Austin was named the Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week after guiding the Buffaloes to a pair of victories last weekend while averaging 4.62 kills per set and hitting .408.
In a 3-2 decision over then-No. 21 Arizona State, Austin hammered 22 kills. She had seven errors on 39 swings to hit .385. She also added six digs and one block. The Sun Devils served her 15 times and she did not commit a single error.
Two nights later, Austin recorded 15 kills and just one error on 32 attacks (.438) as the Buffs swept the then-No. 19 Arizona Wildcats. She posted three blocks, including two solo blocks, and added four digs. Again she did not have a single reception error on 11 attempts.
Austin is the fifth Buff this season to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors. Sophomore Gabby Simpson was the offensive player of the week twice, while Naghede Abu (freshman of the week) and Cierra Simpson (defensive player of the week) have earned the honor once.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Alexis,” head coach Liz Kritza said. “She will be the first one to highlight the success of the whole team and shares these accolades with the group. She can come up with big points at crucial times as we are heading into the homestretch for the conference season and looking towards postseason play.”
The two ranked wins put the Buffs at six this season, a program single season best. Colorado is 16-12 overall and is tied for fifth in the conference (8-8). CU heads to Northern California this weekend for its final road trip of the regular season. The Buffs take on No. 7 Stanford on Thursday, Nov. 19 and on Saturday, Nov. 21, they will face California.
