BOULDER – With the Military Appreciate Game approaching, the University of Colorado wants fans to know about Operation Hat Trick, an organization that the Buffs have been partners with for the past few years.

OHT generates awareness, support and funding for the recovery of America's wounded service members and veterans.  They pursue those goals through the sale of OHT branded merchandise, proceeds of which are distributed to selected organizations supporting the OHT mission.

The company was founded in 2007 after founder Dot Sheehan was listening to a Boston radio station and a trivia contest was underway, asking “what's the one thing wanted by head-wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan?”

The answer was baseball caps to cover wounds, burns, swelling and bandages.  From that, OHT was born.  OHT's brand and mission are now embraced by more than 250 colleges and Universities in all 50 states, and many others.

More than 31 percent of the 2.1 million service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from physical or psychological injuries.  Fans can donate to OHT now or support by purchasing OHT hats at local retailers including:

  • The CU Bookstore
  • Lids at Chapel Hills Mall
  • Lids at The Citadel
  • Lids at Flatiron Crossing
  • Lids at Colorado Mills
  • Lids at Cherry Creek Shopping Center
  • Lids at Park Meadows Mall
