Seniors Spruce, Austin Finish CU Careers with Athlete of the Week Honors

BOULDER--Nelson Spruce (football) set a school record against Utah last Saturday when he made the 23rd catch of his career to wrap up his senior season. Alexis Austin (volleyball) also finished off her career for the Buffs by helping CU to a pair of wins against Washington State and Utah for their second straight season with 19 regular season wins.
In CU's 20-14 loss at Utah, Spruce caught five passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. The 28-yard touchdown catch and run was the 23rd of his career, now the new school record. He already owned the reception (294) receiving yards (3,347) marks, and finished first and eighth in each, respectively, in Pac-12 history. It was the ninth 100-yard game of his career as well, which made him tied for third-most in CU history, and he became just the third player in CU history to have two, 1000-yard receiving seasons.
Austin hammered 24 against WSU and added six digs and five blocks, including two solos. In the battle against Utah, Austin had 14 kills and seven digs, as well as two blocks. She was served to 13 times and did not commit a single error. She averaged 4.22 kills, 1.44 digs and 0.78 blocks while hitting .276.
Also nominated for this week's honors: Josh Scott (men's basketball) and Jamee Swan (women's basketball).
Scott scored a game-high 21 points with seven rebounds and two blocks in the win over Air Force. He hit 9-of-11 from the free throw line and 6-of-7 from the field as he enjoyed his 18th career 20-point game. His nine free throws made were a career high. Scott recorded 18 points, eight rebounds and a career-best five blocked shots in the win over Northern Colorado. He hit 5-of-7 from the field and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Scott's 78.6 percent from the field performance is part of a larger five-game span in which he has made 29-of-38 from the field (.763)
Swan combined to score 33 points and record 15 rebounds over the weekend as the Buffs went 1-1 and finished in second place at the 29th Annual Omni Hotels Classic. In the Buffs' opening game of the four-team tournament, Swan became the 16th player in team history to reach 600 career rebounds as she finished with eight. The senior shot a stellar 7-of-8 (.875) from the field, making her first seven shots and led the team with a season-high 23 points. Colorado defeated UMass 90-63 to advance to the Championship game. Swan then scored 10 points and grabbed seven boards on Saturday against Florida as the Buff fell 83-61 in the Omni title game. Swan was named to the Omni Classics All-Tournament team.
