Buffs' Practice Court Renamed In Hofman's Honor

BOULDER — More than 40 years ago, Bobby Hofman set his college basketball roots at the University of Colorado, where he played for legendary CU coach Sox Walseth.
Hofman later served as an assistant coach for the Buffs under Tom Apke, a springboard to a college coaching career that produced a plethora of winning seasons and NCAA Tournament berths — and even a few stops back in Boulder, when he brought his teams to the Coors Events Center to face the Buffs.
Tuesday evening, thanks to a generous donation from George B. Boedecker Jr. and the Boedecker Foundation, the lower practice court in the Coors Events Center was renamed "Hofman Court." The event was held one night before Fort Lewis — where Hofman coached for 20 seasons — was scheduled to play the Buffs in the Events Center.
Hofman is spending the season as "Head Coach Emeritus" for Fort Lewis, where he is the winningest coach in the program's history. During his tenure in Durango, Hofman's Skyhawks and Raiders won three RMAC regular season crowns, four RMAC postseason championships, six RMAC West Division trophies and seven NCAA Division II playoff berths.
His overall collegiate coaching record through the 2014-15 season is 475-299 (.614) in 27 seasons, which includes stints at NCAA Division I Eastern Washington University (32-54 from 1987-90) and RMAC rival Western State College (82-55 from 1995-2000, the winningest record in Western State history). At the NCAA Division II level, he posted a 443-245 record (.644) in 24 seasons.
Prior to taking the assistant's job at CU, Hofman was a highly successful high school coach, including a stint at Boulder's Fairview High School, where he guided the Knights to the 1981 state championship.
