Women's Golf Set To Host Pac-12 Championships
April 12, 2015 | Women's Golf
BOULDER - The 2015 Women's Golf Pac-12 Championships are coming to Boulder, as the University of Colorado will host the three-day tournament, Monday, April 20 - Wednesday, April 22.
The event is slated for 54-holes, 18 holes each day at the par-71, 6,437-yard Boulder Country Club.
"We are very excited to host the Pac-12 here in Boulder," said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. "It gives us the chance to showcase our beautiful area to the Pac-12 women's golf programs for the first time. Boulder Country Club is looking very nice and is in good shape. The staff and membership at the club have been quite supportive of hosting the event and are excited to watch the competition."
The Pac-12 Championships, arguably the most difficult conference championship in the country, boasts the top three teams in the NCAA. Nine of the 11 teams are ranked in the top 40, according to the latest GolfStat poll released on April 9 with all 11 Pac-12 schools ranked in the top 76 out of 262 Division I women's golf programs nationwide.
The field and each team's ranking (in parenthesis) are as follows: USC (1), Washington (2), UCLA (3), Arizona (8), Stanford (19), Arizona State (25), Oregon (32), California (34), Colorado (39), Oregon State (73) and Washington State (76).
Some of the country's best amateur individuals will put their talent on display as 27 golfers from the Pac-12 hold a spot in the top 100 rankings, including Colorado sophomore Esther Lee, who is No. 36 and freshman Brittany Fan, ranked 89th overall.
"Pac-12 women's golf is probably the most competitive conference in the country, top to bottom," Kelly added. "The Championship will be like a mini National Championship. As the saying goals, to be the best you need to play against the best, and that is what we get to do in the Pac-12 Conference. Fans that come out to watch will see some of the best women amateur golfers in the world and future starts of the LPGA."
This will mark the first time Colorado is hosting the Pac-12 Championships since the Buffaloes joined the conference in 2011. The event will also be the first major tournament in Colorado this year as the State will welcome other women golf events later this summer including the Colorado Senior Open, Colorado Golf Association (CGA) Match Play and the Colorado PGA Professional Championship in September.
