NAIA Star Crosslands Signs With Buff Golfers
April 20, 2015 | Men's Golf
BOULDER - University of Colorado men's golf coach Roy Edwards has added one more player to his 2015 recruiting class, as Corban University's Kade Crossland has signed a financial aid agreement and will join the Buffaloes as transfer this fall.
A freshman this season at Corban, he currently leads the Warriors in stroke average with a 71.33 figure for 21 rounds; he has 14 subpar rounds, with two even rounds, and a low score of 67. He has won four tournaments, including the Northwest Christian University Invitation this past Tuesday, where he record three straight rounds of 70, with his 6-under 210 total making him the only player under par in the field.
Crossland is currently ranked as the No. 12 golfer in the NAIA ranks, and he's helped Corban (Salem, Ore.) to a No. 25 national ranking. He will have four years to complete three years of eligibility, and he will be eligible to play this fall.
"We are very excited to add Kade to an already strong recruiting class," Edwards said. "He is an extremely high-achieving athlete who has really started to blossom in golf in the last year or so. He is a powerful guy with potential to be very good. Corban University did a great job in developing Kade and was very helpful in the process."
Edwards originally started recruiting Crossland when he was in high school, when he was a little under the regional and national radar, but didn't have a scholarship available for him at the time. A year later, other schools started to express interest in him, but Edwards kept watch on his progress from a distance and when Crossland reached out to the CU coach about transferring, the interest was mutual.
He is from Buhl, Idaho, where he lettered in four sports and was the state's 3A champion golfer as a freshman and s, in addition to leading Buhl to the state title his junior and senior years, earning Idaho's Golfer of the Year honors on both occasions from the Twin Falls Times-News. He was also the state's 3A player of the year in basketball as a senior, leading BHS to the state crown in averaging 21 points and seven rebounds a game. Crossland is also an excellent student, as he owned a 3.64 grade point average in high school.
Just before leaving for Corban, he won his club championship - shooting 12-under par on the Clear Lake Country Club layout - thanks to an 11-stroke turnaround in the final round. He was six strokes out of the lead after 18 holes but came back with a 63 to win five shots; that included a remarkable 27 on the front nine (10-under par on the 37-35 course configuration).
This completes CU's 2015 recruiting class, as Edwards signed three of the state's top prep players last November, Pierce Aichinger and Ross Macdonald, both from two-time 4A state champion Valor Christian in Highlands Ranch, and Wilson Belk from Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs.
