July 15, 2015 | Lacrosse
BOULDER – University of Colorado head lacrosse coach Ann Elliott has announced the hiring of Alex Frank as assistant coach on Thursday.
Frank joins the Colorado lacrosse staff after serving as an assistant coach at Boston College for the last three seasons. Her lacrosse career spans seven years, first beginning in 2008 as a midfielder at Northwestern University. She played under Elliott all four years of her collegiate career. Elliott served as an assistant coach at the time. Frank helped her team win three Division I National Championships, first in 2009 and then back-to-back titles from 2011-12.
“Three years ago when I was looking to hire my first staff I spoke to Alex about coming to CU to help us start the program, but the timing was not right,” said Elliott. “I could not be more excited that three years later things have aligned and Alex will be joining our staff at Colorado. Alex has a great understanding for all aspects of the game, which made her versatile as a player and now as a coach, she has an incredible work ethic and she is an exceptional role model.”
As an assistant coach with BC, she helped guide the Eagles to three straight winning seasons (42-18 combined record) and three consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, advancing as far as the quarterfinals in 2014.
“I want to thank the University of Colorado for the opportunity to be a part of the Buffs family,” Frank said. “I am very excited to work with the coaching staff and student-athletes on achieving our goals on the lacrosse field and in the classroom. I am looking forward to helping Annie continue to build the program as well as the sport of lacrosse in Colorado.”
In addition to her work at the collegiate level, Frank has spent the last nine years as a coach and director for the Mass Elite Lacrosse Club team, helping players develop specific lacrosse skills and concepts. She also coordinated practice plans for more than 50 team members.
During Frank's playing career for the Wildcats, she earned a variety of accolades for her impressive performance on the field and strong leadership skills, being elected team captain as a junior and senior. The Westwood, Mass. native was named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American team three times and was a three-time All-Big Ten Conference honoree while earning a place on the Conference All-Tournament Team, twice. Frank was recognized for her academic achievements as well. She was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team all three years of eligibility (2010-12) and as a senior, she was honored as a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year.
“Alex's high level of experience at Northwestern, as a player, and Boston College, as an assistant coach, is going to be a huge asset to our players and program,” Elliott added. “Alex understands what it takes, both on and off the field to build a championship program. I can say with confidence there is no one better to join our program as this stage and help us take this program to the next level.”
Frank graduated with a Bachelor's degree in radio, television and film and minored in business institutions.
