Buffs Picked Sixth In Pac-12 Preseason Poll, Austin Named To Preseason Team

August 11, 2015 | Volleyball

BOULDER—The University of Colorado volleyball team has earned its highest Pac-12 Conference preseason ranking since joining the league in 2011, placing sixth overall. Alexis Austin, a senior outside hitter, was also named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 team. Both were announced on Tuesday by the conference.

Colorado recorded 61 points to round out the top half of the poll. Stanford, which won the league title in 2014, received 11 first place votes for the top spot (121 points).

Austin has been made a huge impact for the Buffs as a starter for the last three seasons and continues to get better. She was named to the All-Pac-12 team at the end of the 2014 season when she averaged 3.19 kills per set. Austin also added 0.61 blocks per set. This past summer, along with teammates Nicole Edelman, Cierra Simpson and Gabby Simpson, Austin trained with the U.S. Collegiate National Team.

The 2015 season officially starts on August 28 as CU hosts San Diego at 6:30 p.m. in the second match of the Omni Hotels Colorado Volleyball Classic. The Pac-12 Conference slate will begin on Sept. 23 at Utah, but the Buffs won't have a home conference tilt until Oct. 9 when they host USC.
