Volleyball: Getting to Know Gabby Carta-Samuels

Gabby Carta-Samuels is our fourth freshman in our Getting To Know series. Learn about the freshman defensive specialist from Saratoga, Calif.
Question: What are you looking forward to most this upcoming season as a freshman?
Answer: Meeting my new teammates and just getting back to work. But I'm excited for it all.
Q: Looking at the four non-conference tournaments, which opponent are you looking forward to playing most and why?
A: I think the obvious choice would be Penn State because it's all about playing the best but right now, I just want to put on a uniform and play who's up next.
Q: The Pac-12 is always a tough conference to play in with many perennial powerhouses. Which team(s) are you most excited about playing and why?
A: I don't think it's possible to have teams that you are most excited about playing in the Pac 12. Every night is exciting and that's why I wanted to be a part of it.
Q: Why did you chose to play volleyball at Colorado?
A: It felt right from the beginning. From the coaches to the girls to the campus, I couldn't imagine anything more perfect for me and the player I am. Everyone here is so determined to win a championship and that was key for me.
Q: What do you think is going to be the biggest difference between high school and college volleyball?
A: I am expecting a lot of differences. Everything is magnified in college physically, mentally, etc.
Q: Who has been the biggest influence on you so far and why?
A: My family. We're all so competitive and helped shape each other into who we are.
Q: If you could play another sport besides volleyball in college, what would it be and why?
A: Soccer or basketball because a contact sport would be cool.
