Green Promoted To Associate Head Soccer Coach
August 03, 2015 | Soccer
BOULDER– University of Colorado head soccer coach Danny Sanchez announced the promotion of Jason Green to associate head coach on Monday.
“I have known Jason since he played youth soccer and then college soccer for me,” said Sanchez. “Our time coaching together at Mesa CC, Wyoming and Colorado has been special. Jason is a tremendous coach and has a great soccer mind. He is passionate about our student-athletes, university and soccer program. Jason buys into our culture of work ethic, loyalty and the vision. He is very deserving of this promotion and we are excited for the future of Colorado soccer.”
Green is in his fourth season with the Buffaloes and will continue to serve as the goalkeeper director.
"What an honor to be named associate head coach for CU soccer,” Green said. “I wouldn't be where I am now without Danny. As a coach, a mentor and most importantly a friend, he has given me so much that I can't put into words my appreciation.”
Since joining CU in 2011, Green has helped the team to a combined 36-22-7 record and its best defensive performances in program history, highlighted by a program record-tying 12 shutouts last season. The Ottawa (Ariz.) University graduate also has played an instrumental role in guiding the black and gold to back-to-back 14 win seasons and two consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances along with a program best third place finish in the Pac-12 Conference last year.
“I would like to thank [Athletic Director] Rick George, [Senior Woman Administrator] Ceal Barry and the rest of the CU Athletic Administration for all of the support they give our soccer program,” said Green. “I am so fortunate I get to work alongside an amazing staff and a group of student athletes, past and present who mean so much to me.”
Under his goalkeeper direction, Green has guided the net minders to a combined goals-against average of 1.10 or better in each of his three seasons. His work solidified Annie Brunner as one of the best keepers in school history and developed senior Kate Scheele into one of the top goalkeepers in the Pac-12 during the Buffs' 2014 campaign, in which she ranked in the Pac-12's top six in save percentage, saves and goals-against average.
"A special shout out to my Mom and all of my family who supports me no matter what,” Green added. “I work hard every day to make them proud."
Green came to CU after serving as an assistant on Sanchez's staff at the University of Wyoming. During Green's four year tenure at Wyoming, the Cowgirls were 36-34-11. He brought the goalkeeping position to a new level, as almost every record was broken while he was training the goalkeepers.
In his 17 year coaching career at the college, high school and club levels, Green has coached five state championship teams, six region champions, four district champions and five conference titlists. He earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Ottawa in 2003 and went on to complete his master's in physical education from Arizona State University in 2008.
