Paxton Named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week

BOULDER – Senior Emily Paxton of the University of Colorado women's soccer team was named the Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Paxton, an Anthem, Ariz. native earned the award after her impressive performance in the Buffaloes' 2-1 double-overtime win against then-No. 14 California on Sunday, Sept. 27. The forward was involved on both Colorado scoring plays, tallying one goal and one assist.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Paxton recorded an assist on CU's game-tying goal. The goal snapped Cal's four-straight matches without allowing a goal, a streak that lasted more than 470 minutes.
During the second-overtime session, Paxton came through with the game-winner in the 106th minute of the Pac-12 opener. Sophomore Joss Orejel sent a perfect corner kick to the far post and Paxton was there to head it past Cal's diving goalkeeper, sending CU home with its first win over Cal in its last four meetings and ending the Bears' eight-match unbeaten streak. The goal was Paxton's second of the season and her first career game-winner.
This is Paxton's first conference Offensive Player of the Week award and Colorado now has seven all-time weekly honors.
The Buffaloes return to the pitch this weekend with two conference road matches. Colorado faces Oregon on Friday, Oct. 2 in Eugene and then closes out the trip in Corvallis against Oregon State on Sunday. Oct. 4.
