Polumbus Could Win Buffs' 50th Super Bowl Ring in SB 50

BOULDER — When former Colorado Buffalo offensive tackle and current Denver Bronco lineman Tyler Polumbus lines up against the Carolina Panthers for Super Bowl 50 on Feb. 7, he'll have a chance to become a unique part of CU history.
Polumbus could win the 50th Super Bowl ring by a Buff in the 50th Super Bowl.
Currently, 33 different Buffs have accounted for 49 Super Bowl rings over the years. The list begins with former CU quarterback Boyd Dowler, who switched to wide receiver when he began playing with the Green Bay Packers, with whom he picked up a pair of rings in the first two Super Bowls ever played.
Dowler is one of 13 former Buffs with multiple rings. Offensive lineman Tom Ashworth and linebacker Ted Johnson won three with the New England Patriots and wide receiver Cliff Branch won three with the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders.
Several former Buffs won their Super Bowl rings with the Broncos, when they won back-to-back world championships in the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Offensive lineman Matt Lepsis, defensive lineman Alfred Williams and punter Tom Rouen each won two rings with the Broncos, while defensive lineman Viliami Maumau won one in 1998.
Other former Buffs with a pair of rings include defensive backs Dick Anderson (Miami Dolphins), Mike L. Davis (Raiders), and Odis McKinney (Raiders), punter Barry Helton (San Francisco 49ers), and tight ends Christian Fauria and Daniel Graham (Patriots).
