Stanton Named Pac-12 Defensive Player Of The Week

October 11, 2016 | Soccer

SAN FRANCISCO – Colorado midfielder Morgan Stanton was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. It is the second defensive player of the week award of her career after earning it Nov. 10, 2014. It's also the fourth player of the week award for the Buffs this season. Jalen Tompkins has been named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week the past two weeks and Taylor Kornieck was last week's Offensive Player of the Week.

Stanton, a senior from Lakewood, Colo., has led the CU defense from the back of the midfield this season. She helped Colorado to its ninth-consecutive win and first 5-0 start in conference play in school history this past weekend as CU allowed just eight shots on goal in two matches. In five Pac-12 matches this season, the Buffs have four clean sheets and have allowed a Pac-12 best one goal. Currently CU's defense ranks 25th nationally in fewest goals allowed per match.

Colorado (11-3 overall, 5-0 Pac-12), ranked 23rd in this week's coaches' poll and 22nd in the Soccer America poll, will host Washington at 3 p.m. on Friday at Prentup Field. That match will be televised nationally on Pac-12 Network.
