Clark, Gilbert Named CU Athletes of the Week

October 04, 2016 | Cross Country, Football

Erin Clark (women's cross country) and Jimmie Gilbert (football) were named CU Athletes of the Week for their performances from the week of September 25th to October 2nd.

Senior Erin Clark recorded her third straight win at the Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday, winning the 5.8-kilometer race in 19:54. In doing so, she became just the third Buff to finish the course in under 20 minutes, joining Olympians Jenny (Barringer) Simpson and Kara (Grgas-Wheeler) Goucher. Clark finished a full eight seconds in front of the runner-up, teammate Kaitlyn Benner. Clark helped guide the second ranked women's team to the team title as well.

Gilbert led a stout defensive effort in CU's 47-6 victory over Oregon State.  He recorded seven tackles (all solo) including two quarterback sacks, the first multi-sack game of his career.  He also forced two fumbles, had three hurries and a third down stop.

Also nominated for this week's honor: Taylor Kornieck (women's soccer) and
Joe Klecker (men's cross country)

Freshman Taylor Kornieck scored the game winning goals in both games for CU this past week. Both of her goals were the only goals in 1-0 wins. She is now the co-leader in goals scored in the Pac-12. With the help of Kornieck, CU's women soccer team is (3-0) in the Pac-12 for the first time ever.

Redshirt freshman Joe Klecker recorded a second place finish as he led the fifth ranked CU men's team to the team title at the Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday. Klecker finished the 8k race in 24:42, which ties the 15th fasted time in shootout history. Klecker finished second to his teammate, John Dressel, who ran unattached and finished in 24:38, the 12th fastest time in course history.
