Buffs Face No. 3 South Carolina In Second Round Of Postseason

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Colorado's 20th-ranked soccer team will face top-seed and No. 3-ranked South Carolina on Thursday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Buffaloes take a 15-5-1 record into Columbia, S.C., to face the Gamecocks, who are 19-1-1 and won the SEC with a perfect 11-0 conference mark.

CU advanced to the second round after a 3-1 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday in Boulder. The Buffs are led by senior forward Danica Evans, who was a first-team all-Pac-12 selection and has 28 points with 11 goals and six assists. Midfielder Taylor Kornieck was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and was also a first-team all-conference selection and she has 11 goals and four assists for 26 points.

South Carolina earned a 7-0 win over Alabama State in the first round of the postseason last week. Junior forward Savannah McCaskill leads the Gamecocks with 45 points this season, scoring 17 goals and assisting on 11 others. She was named SEC Player of the Year. Senior Kaleigh Kurtz was chosen SEC Defensive Player of the Year and she has a goal and five assists on the season.

The teams also feature two of the top freshmen goalkeepers in the country. Jalen Tompkins has started the past 18 matches for CU and is fourth nationally among freshmen with a .857 save percentage, while posting a 0.82 goals-against average. Mikayla Krzeczowski has a 0.45 GAA and .852 save percentage for the Gamecocks.
