Buffs Host No. 8 Washington & WSU To Finish 2016 Home Schedule

BOULDER — Colorado will wrap-up its home schedule this weekend with a pair Pac-12 of matches. The Buffs welcome No. 8 Washington to Coors Events Center on Friday, Nov. 18, at 8 p.m. Then on Sunday, Nov. 20, CU will play its final home match of the season against Washington State, which is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
Friday's match against Washington will be televised live on Pac-12 Mountain and Pac-12 Washington. Sunday's match versus Washington State will be streamed online (Pac-12 Plus). Links to lives stats, as well as the stream for Sunday, are available on the volleyball schedule at CUBuffs.com.
ABOUT THE BUFFS: The Buffs have recorded a 13-13 overall record this season and are ninth in the Pac-12 with a 5-11 mark. The Buffs rank 40th nationally in blocks per set (2.50), which is fourth in the Pac-12, and are averaging 12.99 kills and 14.26 digs per set.
Individually, the Buffs are led by Alexa Smith, who is averaging 3.25 kills per set. At the net, sophomore Naghede Abu is averaging the 46th best total in the country, fifth in the Pac-12, at 1.28 blocks per set.
Junior Gabby Simpson and senior Kiara McKibben have been running a very successful 6-2 offense. Simpson is averaging 5.48 assists per set, but also adds 2.47 kills per set, the second best total on the team. McKibben is recording 5.91 assists per set. Senior Cierra Simpson leads the Buffs with 3.70 digs per set, the 10th best mark in the Pac-12.
ABOUT WASHINGTON: The No. 8 Huskies are 22-4 overall this season and are tied for the top of the Pac-12 standings with a 12-4 mark. UW leads the league with 1.47 aces per set this season and is third in blocks (2.78), hitting percentage (.266) and opponent hitting percentage (.181).
A trio of UW hitters are recording over 3.00 kills per set this season. Courtney Schwan is averaging a team best 3.63 kills per set, while Crissy Jones is tallying 3.04 kills per set. Tia Scambray is also over 3.00 kills per set at 3.01. Jones is second in the Pac-12 with 0.34 aces per set. Defensively UW has a pair recording over 3.00 digs per set: Shayne McPherson (3.58) and Tia Scambray (3.08). At the net, Kara Bajema is posting 1.25 blocks per set, which is sixth in the conference, and Avie Niece also ranks high with 1.20 blocks per set (seventh in the Pac-12).
Washington holds a 10-3 lead in the all-time series against CU. The Huskies took the first meeting between the two schools in Seattle, defeating the Buffs 25-12, 25-16, 25-21. All three of CU's victories in the series have come in Boulder.
ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE: Washington State has recorded a 19-9 overall record and is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 standings with a 9-7 record. As a team, WSU leads the nation in blocks per set with 3.39. The Cougars are also first in the conference in opponent hitting percentage, having held their opponents to a .157 mark.
Kyra Holt is the team's leading offensive weapon, averaging 3.77 kills per set, which is ninth in the Pac-12. WSU is hitting .226 this season under the direction of Haley MacDonald (5.41 assists per set) and Nicole Rigoni (4.93 assists per set). Alexis Dirige is ninth in the Pac-12 with 3.76 digs per set. A pair of Cougars are posting over 1.50 blocks per set. Claire Martin is recording the best mark in the league, sixth in the NCAA, at 1.53 blocks per set, while Taylor Mims is second in the conference, seventh in the NCAA, with 1.52 blocks per set.
The Buffs own a 9-2 lead in the all-time series against the Cougars, which includes the last six meetings. CU handed WSU its first home loss of the season when the two teams met in Pullman, Wash. on Oct. 14. Set scores were 25-15, 19-25, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13.

CLEAR BAG POLICY
In an effort to provide a safer environment for fans, the University of Colorado will be implementing a clear bag policy at the Coors Events Center for all CU volleyball matches, men's basketball and women's basketball games this season (2016).
Beginning this season, fans may bring one clear bag no larger than 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches, or a one-gallon reseal-able clear plastic storage bag, into the arena. Fans will also be allowed one small clutch purse, no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
Bags that will no longer be allowed into the CEC include backpacks, large purses, oversized tote bags, camera bags and binocular cases, diaper bags, fanny packs and printed plastic bags.

- Chip's Kids Club will host Gobble Fest before the match against the Washington Huskies. Between 7-8 p.m., kids in eighth grade and under can participate in face painting, crafts stations, pin the feathers on the turkey and more.
- All Denver metro area high school students can attend the match for free with a valid school ID - use the northeast entrance.
- The Buffs will sign autographs post-match on the concourse by section 4.
