STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Colorado women's golf team is set to open its 2015-16 spring season here this weekend (Feb. 13-14), competing in the 21st Annual Peg Barnard Invitational.

The tournament, a two-day, 36-hole event hosted by the Stanford Cardinal will be held at Stanford Golf Course. The first groups tee-off at 9 a.m. MT from the first and 10th holes on Saturday and the final round takes place on Sunday.

The field features 13 teams, five from the Pac-12 Conference with four of those schools entering the tournament ranked in the top 25 of the latest Golfweek poll. The 22nd-ranked Buffaloes will compete against No. 3 Stanford, No. 12 Washington and 21st-ranked California. Rounding out the field is Denver, Fresno State, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, San Jose State, UC Davis and USF.

“It's a good field with some strong teams so it will be a good test to start the spring,” said Colorado head coach Anne Kelly. “We have good players on the team and we're all excited to get out on the course.”

Five Buffaloes are on the trip and will count toward team scoring–junior Esther Lee, sophomore Brittany Fan, senior Alexis Keating and freshmen Lauryn Keating along with Gillian Vance. Alexis, Fan and Lee, who posted Colorado's best fall stroke average at 72.63 competed in each of the team's four fall tournaments. Vance played in three events and Lauryn competed as an individual in two.

Located in the foothills, overlooking Stanford's campus, the par-71, 6,084-yard course is consistently rated as one of the finest in the world. The Buffaloes opened its spring season in this same tournament the past two years, and last season they finished in seventh place out of 12 teams. The Buffs shot 598, 30 over-par and Lee anchored the team with an even-par 142 scorecard to take sixth place overall. This will mark the third time Alexis has played in this event and second for Fan and Lee.
