Scott Named Finalist For Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award
February 05, 2016 | Men's Basketball
BOULDER – University of Colorado senior Josh Scott has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2016 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Award.
Scott made the group of finalists, pared down from 20 on the initial preseason watch list. The award is named after Hall of Famer and three-time NCAA champion Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who played for John Wooden at UCLA from 1966-69.
Scott leads Colorado at 17.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while shooting 56 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line. He is second on the team in blocked shots (43) and third in assists (46). Scott has 11 double-doubles, tied for second in the Pac-12 Conference, and has scored in double figures in all 23 games.
On the Pac-12 leaderboard, Scott is currently third in both scoring and rebounding, fourth in blocked shots and seventh in field goal percentage. He joins fellow Kareem Abdul-Jabbar finalists Josh Hawkinson of Washington State and Jakob Poeltl as the only three players in the Pac-12 to rank in the top 10 in those four categories.
In March, the top five candidates will be presented to Abdul-Jabbar and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The winner will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards in Los Angeles on Friday, April 8, 2016.
