Buffs Compete At Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational

LINCOLN, Neb. — University of Colorado senior Abrianna Torres finished 11th in the pentathlon on Friday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational.
Torres finished with 3,646 points, while sophomore Andrew Ghizzone completed the first day of the heptathlon in 11th place with 2,578 points.
Torres started the day off running the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 14th with a time of 9.11 seconds. She moved onto the high jump and performed slightly better, finishing 11th (5-1.75). Continuing her climb up the standings, Torres improved yet again in her strongest event, the shot put. Her mark of 42-6.25 was good enough for a third place finish, her best finish of the day. Torres entered the last two events in the pentathlon sitting ninth in the standings.
The next event for Torres was the long jump. She recorded a mark of 18-2.25, finishing sixth, which put her into a tie for seventh heading into the last event.
Torres needed a good performance in the 800-meter run to complete the comeback, but unfortunately Torres fell just short of that goal finishing 12th in the race with a time of 2:35.84. The tough finish put Torres just out of the top ten in the total standings, and she settled with the 11th place finish.
Ghizzone began his third heptathlon competition of the season running the 60-meters, completing the race in 7.39 seconds, (11th overall). He followed that up with another 11th place finish in the long jump (20-6.50). The shot put produced a personal best (37-2.5) for Ghizzone as he placed tenth. For the final event of the day, Ghizzone turned in his best mark, finishing eighth in the high jump (5-10.5) to set himself up for the final day of the heptathlon on Saturday.
