K-State Rallies To Take Down CU 4-3

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Colorado was just one match away from a team win after three matches, but was unable to hold on as Kansas State rallied for a 4-3 win over the Buffaloes in Manhattan, Kan., on Friday.
The Buffs earned the doubles point in dramatic fashion. After a 6-1 setback at the No. 2 position, Alex Aiello and Brigitte Beck blew past their Wildcats counterparts 6-2 at No. 3. Then the point came down to a tiebreak at No. 1 as Tina Bokhua and Nuria Ormeño Ruiz edged Carolina Costamagna and Millie Stretton 7-6 (0) in the decisive match.
Bokhua got singles off to a great start, cruising to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Sara Castellano at No. 1. Ormeño Ruiz fought to a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (6) win at No. 2 to give CU a 3-0 lead.
Following the win at No. 2 singles, the momentum quickly shifted towards K-State. The Wildcats battled to a 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5) win at No. 3 singles as Costamagna snuck past CU's Jeannez Daniel to cut the Buffaloes' lead to 3-1.
Livia Cirnu then took down Kyra Wojcik 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to cut CU's lead to 3-2.
Moments later, the No. 4 singles match finished up as K-State tied it up 3-3 when Iva Bago beat Annabelle Andrinopoulos 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.
It all came down to No. 6 singles. Alex Aiello dropped the first set 6-2, but kept the match alive by winning 6-4 in the second. Trailing 4-3 in the third, she surrendered the final two games to Millie Stretton as K-State successfully pulled off the comeback.
The Buffs (3-3) will return to action on Sunday at Kansas at noon CT.
